Fantasy Tip|Get your Mock On!

You getting the itch?  What itch?  The fantasy football drafting itch.  It’s that time when the free services start opening the flood gates.  I would have to say that the Public leagues that start up in the free services in Yahoo in June and July are the most likely to have deadbeat owners during the season.  Why?  Because some people just want to draft….NOW.  If your one of these people that just wants to draft for the sake of drafting, don’t sign up for a league on whim just to do so.  How about doing some free Mock Drafts?

Fantasy Football Mock Draft sites are not new by any means.  I have done some in the past and just plain didn’t care for the experience.  Not anymore.  Last night I tried out Fantasy Football Calculator and I have to say I’m addicted already.  The simplicity of it is just amazing.  You take off with this thing right out of the box, not even a registration!  Get there, click Mock Drafts, choose one that is starting in a matter of minutes and your Mocking Baby!

During the Mock itself all you have to do is click on a name to add them to your queue.  Rank them then in order by dragging them around.  When your up just click on them, confirm you want to draft them and your done for the round.  There is also a chat within the Draft Room like you would find in most fantasy football drafts.

A Major upside is the time.  You can run through one of these things in about a half hour.  When completed you can bookmark the page for later viewing.   In fact you can view all the completed drafts on the site as well.

Aside from the Mock Drafts the site also provides Average Draft Position (ADP) where you can have a look where the players fall on average.  It is viewable in either a list or a draft board.  An interesting feature is the comparison chart that shows a players movement in position over the last month.  You can also compare players against each other by just clicking a box.

So, instead of contemplating creating another Yahoo ID so you can have more free leagues to be in later while you draft for the itch now, go check this out.

Some observations from the Mock Draft I participated in…

• 10 of the first 24 picks (two rounds) were not RB’s.  Oh how the times are changing.
• Still not gaining any respect, Eli Manning and Philip Rivers go after a questionable Jake Delhomme.
• A little run on Team D starts at the end of the 8th round.
• McFadden goes in round five with fellow rookies Stewart and Forte following in the 6th.
