Iverson Isn't The Answer, Until He Overrides Selfishness, Ego

Bleacher Report
Nov 27, 2009

Theย greatest little man stood up,ย and survivedย the tallest men in sports.ย Of course, everyone was intrigued wheneverย Allen Iverson had tough-minded and dynamic performances, whichย attractedย fans across the world.

He entertained usย magnifyingย children as a role model, in which he wasย idolizedย andย his singular actions wereย imitated on a regular. At 34, Iverson has prospered inย triumph, entering the season with the fifth-highest scoring record in NBA history.

But, as we know,ย lingeringย flawsย are battering and forced Iverson to announce an earlyย retirement on Wednesday.ย This is an outlandish and corrupt wayย for a future Hall of Famer to end a lifelong career, rememberedย mainly forย needlessย interrupts.ย From most perspectives, his fame isn't anywhere near destruction,ย and seems hidden flaws are dismissed.ย

One reason he's not playing for any team and decided to forgo his momentousย career,ย havoc followed andย pointless baggage no team neededย as a burden. Pathetically,ย his selfishness and ego cut ties with multiple teamsย of late, flaws which blindedย popularity and unparalleledย achievements. Since then, Iverson hasn't been identified as the Answer, allowing his dispirited nature toย leave toxic behind in Detroit and Memphis,ย cities where he was reluctant to compromise.

Ifย he failed getting his way,ย thenย he cried as if he was a baby who cried for the basketball. He cried for not getting enough touches and playingย time, which wore out teams rapidly and ended brief stints in Denver, Detroit and Memphis. Hisย lone MVP honors,ย NBA Finals appearance areย disastrous consideringย an unhappy ending and unfinished business, whenย no teams are currently interested in taking on a risk.

There's a team inclined toย endorse a perilous journey, andย sign Iverson to a one year deal. Right now, he's not considered a point guard when he's a shoot-first guard. That makes Iverson seem as if he's a two guard, and doesn't grasped an idea of teamwork.

Iverson has enough in the tank, but need to accommodate with teammates. His unique style has been forgottenย as the man is known for illogicalย blemishes. But the mission isn't completed, still needing to arrive on the biggest stage and capture his first NBA title.

Ifย Iverson isย coveted,ย he mustย overrideย ego and selfishnessย and reform as team player instead of an individual. Until then,ย he's officially retired afterย 13 miraculous seasons and walkingย away from the game is cowardly, if heย truly believed he had a dazzlingย NBA career.

As of now, memories of his scoring titles areย gone. As of now, memoriesย of hisย wonderful shooting nights are gone. As of now, AI is gone. Out of the NBA picture is the Answer who departed with a valid answer, butย pleased a significant amount of folks. They couldn't care less about Iverson, whenย someย are emotionally shock of his ultimate decision to depart fromย the game he seemedย very passionate playing, butย selfishย on sharing the wealth with teammates.

And sinceย he feels unwanted, Iversonย walked away from the game. Ifย a team called him sometimeย this week,ย he'llย ponderย options and reconsider playing.ย Then, he maybe could finish out his career on a stronger note, and earn backย theย trust levelย if he performs as aย distributor more than a shooter.ย

Lately, critics are finding anythingย just toย send home Iverson for good. Average critics insistย he has lost his swaggering andย seems a step slower than in previous seasons.ย As he's aging, Iverson is probably slower, but it's difficultย confirmingย that he no longer could dominate at will. But for now, Iverson has waved farewell until a team welcomesย theย superb scorer still devoid of a championship.

More so, he hasย riddenย the NBA train throughout his career.ย After leavingย behind a long tenureย in Philly, heย was traded to Detroit, where he was eventually tradedย for Chauncey Billups, who led the Nuggets to the Western Conference Finals.ย As for the Pistons,ย aย promising season toppled and misery became an issue.

Iverson insisted he was injured, but seemed unhappyย coming off the bench instead of starting andย told theย Pistonsย he'd retire. That led to a surprising departure ofย first-year coach Michael Curry, who immediately was firedย at theย closure of theย season. When heย singed withย Memphis,ย Iverson uttered the importance of winning, however it wasn't long before heย complained about playing time, whichย created aย disappointing ending.

If he was a winner, he'll be fine coming off the bench. If he was a winner, he wouldn't complain about playing time. If he was a winner, he'llย play as a team player.

If so, he'll be given another shot of redeeming selfishness and ego.ย
