Will The Best Talent In College Be The First Overall Pick?

John Wall was the top recruit of the 2009-10 class.  He is also projected to be the number one pick in the draft, right?  If you look at the current records, and at the trades made by teams, the first five picks would be in this order: New Jersey Nets, Minnesota Timberwolves, Utah Jazz (via New York), Washington Wizards, and then Charlotte Bobcats.  None of these teams need a star point guard.

The Nets have an all-star point guard in Devin Harris, with veteran point guard Rafer Alston to back him up.  They have a larger needs then to have Wall, Harris, and Alston battle for minutes.

The Minnesota Timberwolves spent most of their picks last season on point guards, and got a solid point guard in Jonny Flynn (14.1 ppg and 3.2 apg).  Ramon Sessions is backing him up (3.5 apg).  Minnesota would raise dig themselves into a larger hole if they took another point guard in the first round.

The Utah Jazz have Deron Williams and used their first round pick of last year to pick Eric Maynor to back him up.

Washington Wizards have Gilbert Arenas, and may bite at the chance of having him on still on the board.

The Bobcats Already have Raymond Felton and D.J. Augistine splitting time.

The Grizzlies would have the next pick, and most likely would pick him if Mike Conley Jr. does not improve his ppg (8.1).  He distributes does a solid job of passing the ball (5.2 apg). 

Wall has drawn comparisons to reigning ROY and former first overall pick Derrick Rose, both are coming from a John Calipari system.  Wall is a freak of an athlete who needs to improve his 3-point shot to be a threat from all over the floor.  Walls Stats: 19.8ppg 4.0 rpg 6.6 apg 1.8 spg 1.0 bpg 4.6 tpg.
