Come to Think of It: A Chicago Sports Thanksgiving Poem
HAPPY THANKSGIVING
Thanks to Tom Ricketts, who purchased the team,
Here’s to someday achieving our World Series dream.
Thanks go to the Blackhawks, wearing the Indian so proud,
With their ambassadors in tow and the roar of the crowd
Here’s to the hope of a change for the Bears,
The fans are not lovie-ing his passionless stares
Thanks to the Bulls for at least making a run,
This season may not impress, but the Celts series sure was fun
The Fightin’ Illini were a wreck and a mess,
At least the Wildcats gave us some upsets to witness
Thanks to Marian Hossa, who made a triumphant debut,
Eight in a row lookin’ ‘Buf as they do
Kenny is thanking his San Diego treat,
Hoping that Jake brings ‘em back from defeat
Thanks to the youngsters who make up our teams
Names like Toews, Kane, Rose, and Beckham filling our dreams
Here’s to the final curtain for all-too-sweet Lou
Retiring to Tampa after the season is through
Thanks to the honesty spewing from the Blizzard of Oz,
A refreshing alternative to the Lovie façade
Thanks to the Fire and Wolves, you thought I forgot
In a crowded landscape there's always a spot
And here’s one final "Thanks" to you "Creatures" out there,
With Thanksgiving wishes filling the air.
