The Motor City Machine Guns: the Most Misused Talent in TNA

The Doctor Chris MuellerNov 25, 2009

For my 100th article on B/R I decided to acknowledge two guys who I feel are getting misused and buried by management and that is Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley AKA the Motor City Machineguns.

Since I first started watching TNA two years ago, I caught on a little late, I have been seeing amazing matches and great young talent getting showcased like never before.  Guys like AJ Styles, Christopher Daniels, Petey Williams and Jay Lethal have been some of the most exciting young wrestlers TNA has to offer.

The two guys I feel have been overlooked, underused, and buried by the crazy management at TNA are the MMG's.  Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley are two guys who have natural charisma and chemistry, as well as the right look and style to be a great tag team.

Lately it feels as if TNA management looks at them as the little kids of TNA and is brushing them aside to make room for guys like Nigel, oh sorry Desmond, and Kurt Angle.  Angle doesn't need exposure for people to know he is amazing at what he does, but guys like Shelley and Sabin do.

They are young and yet so very talented.  Anyone who watches their tag matches will see double team moves that have never been seen before as well as two guys who are so in sync that its always a shock to find out they are not brothers in real life.  The last team I saw with this kind of chemistry who were not related were Edge and Christian.

Shelley recently won his first X-division title, so i guess they haven't been forgotten completely, but how is that the most exciting tag team in TNA hasn't won the gold yet?  The Dudley's have won TNA gold and they barely look good in matches anymore.  Not to mention how Bubba-Ray's weight problem has gotten worse in the last two years.

Sabin is currently hurt with a neck injury gained against Team 3D when Bubba gave a Rock bottom-like move to Sabin, who landed square on his neck.  It was the scariest moment I have witnessed since Brock Lesnar's botched Shooting Star Press on Angle.  This means we may not see the Machine-guns for a few weeks, at least not in a wrestling role.

My hope for these two is that sometime soon they are given a reign as TNA tag champions to see what they can do.  It only makes good sense.  They are TNA originals who have been staples in the X-division since its inception and they are two of the best high flyers TNA has right now.  Top all that off with the fact that they know each other so well they may as well be clones and you have got one great team.

If Shelley and Sabin aren't tag champs within six months then Hogan will be making a big mistake, and I say Hogan because of all the press lately saying he will be booking and running TNA.

These guys are like a better version of London and Kendrick so I could see the WWE being interested in taking them on, especially since their friend Low ki, who goes by Kaval now, is in developmental for the WWE.  These three could form a stable with Lance Hoyt, damn, I mean Vance Archer, of guy who left a smaller organization for the big time.

This kind of angle would give all of them exposure on an international level.  I'm not saying that they will end up in the WWE, but if they did it would make for some great television.  With Christian having returned form TNA he could be the leader of the stable.

The WWE isn't very high on acknowledging the existence of other wrestling companies, but doing so in this way could be a good thing for them from a creative standpoint.

What do you guys think of The Motor City Machine guns?
