Gut Check Time For The Texans

Fahim CarimNov 24, 2009

The rivalry is getting more intense between these two teams every year. So far no games have been controversy free. They have a fight every game when V. Young comes to town he tries to punish the Texans for not drafting him much to the Texans anger Texan fan show up with his jersey on, along with the smack talked before the game you knew it was going to be a rivalry game.

When I watched the game with the rest of Houston we saw V. Young and a 3-6 Titan team come to town to play. And they play did, handing the Texans another heartbreaking loss and severely damaging their playoff hopes in the process.

The Titans running game is extremely hard to stop once V. Young is in there because once Kris Johnson the most explosive runner in the league has the ball you want all eleven chasing him, but the threat of vince young taking off means one or preferably two players are still watching. Schaub had a typical day throwing for over 300 yard and the defense slowed the dangerous Tennessee attack so the game was close and the Texans looked good but Vince Young came through when his team needed it, with his arm and his legs. He led the team down the field for what would be the game winning field goal when they needed it. The Texans had already blown a chance to pull ahead, but still had time to drive down for a chance to tie the game and send it into overtime, but Kris Brown missed for the second time that game and for the second time in as many games, couldn't make the kick which would send the game into overtime.

The first missed kick was much bigger than the second as far as losing the game was concerned it was shorter and easier. Brown makes that one and V.Young is under a must score to win situation and the pressure is on.

Right now people are pointing fingers and shaking their heads, the loss is huge however it happened and the team is back to 5-5.

Recently instead of having a hero every week they are taking turns being the goat. Cris Brown left the ball on the turf as he went in for the score against the Jags, Schaub threw a silly pick six with the game tied and the Texans in control to lose to the Cardinals, Schaub's dumb pickoff and Browns missed field goal led to a Colts victory in another they could have easily won. And everybody pitched in for "goat of the game" to get a whipping in the first game of the season from Mark Sanchez, a rookie QB, in the opener.

The Texans are thinking "were aren't who we thought we were". The truth is this, they have greatly improved but this is the NFL and they unfortunately play in the AFc's toughest division. These games are going to be close and they have got play near flawless every game. They have to expect perfection from themselves and demand it from their teammates. No drops, missed tackles, throws into coverage or goal-line fumbles. The Texans have to play not just good not just passionately but great like a team on a mission. Not a Team that hopes or wants to make the playoff but a team that expects to be in the Superbowl. They have to do that in every game on every play. They definitely have the players and team to do it.

The frustrating thing for the coaches, players and fans is they can see this team is capable of so much more but they seem to come up with "Rosencopter" moments at the wrong time.
