PENN STATE, COLLEGE FOOTBALL'S BIGGEST FRAUD

Kurt MewsNov 23, 2009

As the 2009 College football season comes to a close many college football fans debate which teams belong in the coveted BCS. One team does not belong in that mix. Sadly, money does talk and that would be the only reason to place the over hyped and rated Nittany Lions in any BCS game.

Let's take a look at the facts;

1. PSU beat NO ONE in the top 25, of course to beat a team in the top 25 one must schedule them.

2. PSU had two huge Big Ten games both were at home against top 25 teams. In a white out revenge game against The Iowa Hawkeyes, PSU jumped out to an early 10-0 lead. Iowa adjusted and cruised to a 21-10 win. Then Ohio State came calling and no one really gave them and their struggling offense a chance for a win in Happy Valley. Ohio State only ran all over them and shut down their 'Heisman' caliber QB, Clark. OSU rushed for over 200 yards and pulled away as Penn State could do nothing after an early TD.

3. PSU had good reason to be very optomistic with all their outstanding facts, "Best 3rd down D in FBS, best scoring D in BCS, Clark for Heisman, etc..."  It's really easy for anyone to gain those stats when playing mostly home games against the likes of; Eastern IL, Akron, Syracuse and Temple, then toss in those 'outstanding' Big Ten teams like IL, MI, MN, NW and Indiana.  What is the combined number of wins for those teams?  However, when PSU played any team with talent, they were exposed big time and these games thankfully were televised nationally for all to see.  The Nittany Lions dodged Wisconsin and Purdue or those too might have been losses.

4. PSU's game of fame was against MSU. But don't get overly excited, The Spartans were very mediocre this year losing to the likes to Central Michigan, Notre Dame and Minnesota.  Yes, PSU beat NW, but only after being tied in the 3rd quarter and pulling away in the fourth, and this was before NW was getting its groove.

5. Joe Pa and his Lions might do better in the mediocre Big Ten if they schedule any decent Out of Conf. opponent and push and test themselves early!

Don't make a mistake and place this team in a BCS game, there are many other talented teams far more deserving. The Big Ten doesn't need any more embarrassments on the national stage.  Iowa beat them head to head, played with their heart out at Ohio State and with some healthy players returning and rock solid D will make for a far more better prime time BCS game opponent.  Boise State which beat Oregon by 30 or Texas Christian with their impressive wins, one over Utah are far more deserving.  Send the Lions where they deserve to be, The Outback Bowl!  Hopefully they won't have to face LSU, because it won't be pretty!
