The Eastern Conference Is Back On Top: The Balance Of Power Has Shifted
Its safe to say that the Eastern Conference is back on top after about a 5-7 year hiatus due to the Western Conference.
That physical aggressive style of play we all loved from the 90's is back but a little less physical. For this we owe Lebron,Wade,Dwight,Garnett and many more but mainly those four.
Earlier on in this decade the East was dominated by the Lakers and Spurs and those two teams are still in title contention. The west made the east look like a junior varsity squad when both finalists from the conferences met it usually ended in a sweep. It was a joke but after a while it became true, some went as far to say that the Western Conferences 8th seed could beat the East's 2 seed.
Now i think its safe to say that the the talent and quality of each conferences has evened out and the most serious contenders for the title belong in the East.
The knock down drag out style of play has just about came back but not as combative as the 90's due to the referees calling the game more closely. If you drive to the whole in the East best believe the shot will be contested and it will result in a foul or block. As the old saying goes No easy baskets, go try your luck at the foul line.
The 03 and 04 drafts really restocked the East along with some trades and free agency.
In the 2003 Nba draft we were blessed to have Lebron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and many more added to the Eastern Conference. They brought star quality to the east and they each turned into superstars.
In 2004 some beef and ruggedness was added with Dwight Howard and Defensive prowess was added by Anderson Varejao and Josh Smith along with his athleticism. Jameer Nelson was also added and we all know the Eastern hemisphere produces some of the most talented and tough guards.
In 2008 two more budding stars were added in Derrick Rose and Michael Beasley along with a bevy of more talented players.
Also in 2009 another talented point guard was drafted to the Milwaukee Bucks and he is a scoring machine.
A few more players were added to the conference through trades mainly Garnett,Allen, and Shaquille Oneal.
One important underrated star that was added through free agency is Joe Johnson for the Hawks who helped put them back on the map and make them a contender.
We have also a witnessed a few good playoff battles in the east the last couple of years.
Lebron going up against the Pistons and finally taking them down in the 07 Eastern conference finals. Lebron's rivalry against the Wizards they battled three consecutive years and every game played was physical.
Most recently we were graced by that Celtics-Bulls series which had to be decided in 7 games and was one of the most exciting series i have watched in a while.
The talent and Defensive toughness is back in the Eastern Conference and they are putting the West on notice.
All this adds up to the east being back on top and that excitement of the Eastern Conference in the 90's is back in full throttle!
