Martin Demichelis: It's Crunch Time For Bayern

Samrin HasibNov 23, 2009

Another draw, another point- another day crossed off Louis Van Gaal's tenure as Bayern coach.

Nobody related to FCB in anyway is pleased with the way things are going. The match against Leverkusen could have gone in either direction and at the end both sides settled for a point. Leverkusen will perhaps be happier with the point though as they went back to the top, overtaking Bremen in the process.

Mario Gomez scored for Bayern after the referee played advantage following a foul on Miroslav Klose. I think he can be excused for failing to beat Rene Adler from close range later on; atleast he scored.

Stefan Kiessling nutmegged Daniel Van Buyten easily, scoring his ninth goal of the season in the process. My prediction came true. Van Buyten failed to keep out Kiessling.

Anatoliy Tymoschuk's weak effort saved by Rene Adler summed up Bayern's night. It was a reasonably better display, yet the best chance fell to a man who would most probably be unable to convert it. Stefan Kiessling had a goal ruled out for offside and maybe that was one point of the match were lady luck smiled upon the battered, yet arrogant Bayern.

Martin Demichelis fears that Bayern may just have put their season to bed already with just one-fourth or so of it played. He spoke prior to the clash against Leverkusen. Bayern are almost out of Europe and even if they beat Macabi Haifa on Wednesday, they will have to hope that Bordeaux are still interested in fielding their first eleven despite having qualified already against Juventus.

A season spent in the first year of the Europa League- not bad, for a four time European Champion (three European Cups and one Champions League).

Demichelis is correct in what he has to say. As each matchday passes, Bayern keep on sliding downwards. During Ottmar Hitzfeld's tenure in the 2007-08 season, at one point bayern were referred to as "boring" due to them drawing too many games. Back then, they were top of the table every matchday, now they are nowhere near the top.

Van Gaal had previously mentioned that it would take time to make the team play his kind of football. What he has to realise is that he is not dealing with a whole lot of Mullers; rather he is dealing with a squad filled with seasoned internationals who have played in mostly one role during the course of their careers.

If he wants to play a 4-3-3, he can try it, but he needs a back-up for Robben. Muller is versatile and extremely talented, but he plays as a no:10 mostly.

To sum it all up, these were Demichelis' words:

"I hope it is not too late to turn our season around. Otherwise it is going to get chaotic and even worse."
