Record Day for Eli?
So today was a record day for New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning? My thinking? So what and thatโs coming from a Giants fan. Why is it such a record day is what Iโm wondering. In my mind its a far over due day for a player with so much talent, so much promise and been in the league for six seasons.
Iโll give Eli credit on his 384 yards being a career high that is impressive. Iโll give him that but in my eyes whats not impressive is how this was his first 300+ yard passing game in a stadium that he plays at eight times a season.
Looking over his career, this was his 41st regular season start. Yes, 41st. The last โgreatโ QB in the organization was Phil Simms he did it in his second career start at the Meadowlands. Anyone says that was luck he did it again nine games later and followed that up the next week with another 300+ performance. What makes Simms numbers even more impressive was that those Giants teams of the eighties were even more run oriented then the current concoction.
Donโt get me wrong, Iโm not knocking Eli but its pretty much the same old Eli weโve had his entire career. Heโs had moments of brilliance (typically on the road). Even in those games heโs had moments where you think does he know what heโs doing out there.
Some will say this is the game that will turn him around but weโve heard that before thereโs just no consistency with him. He crushed a bad defense today, something heโs supposed to do. Can he do is against a solid defense?
Next week heโs got a Denver Broncos defense that is just as bad as Atlanta, maybe worse. What will he do?
Iโm thinking heโll come out next week and throw three interceptions and take another step backwards. Itโs what he does, he gets the fans hopes up and then deflates us.
Itโs what keeps him from being an elite quarterback and will continue to keep him from that status. And thatโs what makes me say congratulations on your day but so what.
