What If... (Part 2) Vitor Belfort V.S Wanderlei Silva 2

Chris Topher Bean Nov 22, 2009

What if....

What if Wanderlei Silva and Vitor Belfort went at it again? What if the berserker of the sport, Wanderlei, went up against some of the most lethal hands in the game, Belforts? What would happen the second time around?

The first time that these two met to fight. Or should I say, Wanderlei showed up to fight but was knocked out in 44 seconds after landing maybe three shots on Vitor. Wanderlei likes to get in close and do damage with knees and elbows, and to try and close that distance, Wanderlei threw a leg kick and from that moment on was closer then he should have been against a man with hands as fast as Vitors. And Vitor eventually caught Silva with a right hand that rocked Silva back on his heels. Vitor followed that up with a flurry of punches that had Wanderlei runnning back across the Octagon away from Vitor. But, you can only go so far in the Octagon. Eventually both men were against the cage and Vitor continued the flurry. Wanderlei tried to defend himself, but unsuccessfully did. Vitor dropped him to the mat and Big John McCarthy jumped in and stopped the fight. The entire fight took 44 seconds. Which, at that time, was the fastest knockouts in UFC history. Not that it can be considered slow by any means now a days. Being able to knockout someone as skilled as Wanderlei in that short amount of time is impressive no matter what decade it is.

When Vitor Belfort burst onto the scene, everyone thought that he was going to use his blck belt jiu jitsu skills and take all of his opponents to the mat and submit them. Instead, he came out and used his incredibly fast hands and boxing skills to knockout all of his opponents. He was on a tear through the UFC. Taking out all of his opponents. Then, he was matched up to face Randy Couture. Randy was able to close the distance on Vitor and take him to the mat. From there, Randy worked his ground 'n pound and pulled off the victory.

Wanderlei had, and has continued to have, mixed success inside of the Octagon. But no matter who or when or where he was fighting, he always made it exciting. Mainly because of his style. He comes out at the beginning bell and swings for the fences until he is defeated or the final bell rings.

Now, in the stand up realm of a fight between these two would be incredibly entertaining. But  entertainment doesn't win a fight.

I think that it can be agreed upon by everyone that Wanderlei has the more ferocious and wild striking that can hurt opponents by using pure force and power. Vitor on the other hand, well he has dangerous striking in the way that he is so accurate that he can do damage with a single, well placed shot.

Both of these men also have very good jiu jitsu and just ground skills in general.

so who would win? It all would depend on which one of these two fighters could get the knock out or submission first.
