UFC: Everybody Wants a Piece of Georges St. Pierre

Dorothy WillisJun 13, 2008

Bloggers are going wild with the news that Georges St. Pierre just finished up a training session in Brazil at the Gracie Barra Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu school.

Some are saying he should have gone with a different school this time.  Others are speculating that he was not there to train at all but rather using this subterfuge to scope out the babes and play on the beach away from the maddening crowds.

Well, whatever he was there for, he has returned to a public very needy of his attention and desperately trying to divine his strategy for the Aug. 9 fight with Jon Fitch.

All the attention this young French-Canadian MMA fighter attracts must surely be a distraction from the intensive training sessions he adheres to before a fight. The limelight can truly be a harsh mistress, even to those who profess not to seek her.  Can Georges remain oblivious to all this attention?

Blog sites are rife with predictions of how the fight will go; who is the stronger of the two combatants; will it be a striking match or a grappling match; is this to be the end of Georges' reign as the UFC Welterweight champ?  Will he be able to survive the onslaught of the 'beast' Fitch is said to be?

And of course, before the results are even in, future contenders such as Thiago Alves are stepping up to call Georges out in hopes of a title shot.

If Alves misses his chance due to not making weight, then Diego Sanchez, Josh Koscheck, and even Matt Serra are all standing in line to challenge him.

In Montreal, Georges was magnanimous in promising Matt Serra a future rematch, perhaps to be held in New York if the bill to allow MMA events there passes when it comes up again on June 18.

Just as Matt Hughes was eager for a rematch after his stunning defeats by "Rush," I am sure Serra will want to attempt to defy history with a second upset of the UFC superstar.  This time to prove once and for all that his first win was not just a fluke, as many critics are still insisting.

Certainly not the last person to crave a piece of St. Pierre, Mandy Moore is still waiting anxiously in the wings totally "crushing" on Rush and ready to pursue a relationship with the handsome young man.  That is if he should ever take a break from the fight game and actually seek a feminine distraction.

So Georges, is there enough of you and enough time for you to meet each of your many challenges?  The life of a fighter is rough, but I bet you never anticipated it would be like this.
