You Can't Fire Charlie Weis, He Has Already Quit.
I used to refer to Charlie Weis as the "Bloated One". This was in reference to his ego rather than his physique. That was when I still had hope he wanted to improve and stay with Notre Dame. I have no such hope anymore. I was so angry after the Navy game I stated that Notre Dame would not win another game this season. It is truly sad that Charlie Weis decided to make that statement a reality. I would like to ask Mr. Weis 2 questions. When did he decide to quit Notre Dame? Does Mr. Weis even care about the thousands of loyal fans he tormented this season? I had the great fortune not to be swindled by the financial pyramid schemes of our recent past. I do know how those people feel.
It is rather frustrating, we seemed to be headed in the right direction this year. We started to run the ball, get more of a balanced offense and our defense even pitched a shut out in the first game. Then the team endured a couple of losses, lots off injuries and a huge amount of horrible calls from officials. At some point this year, it had to be to much for Mr. Weis. He must of said to himself that the pressure was to great and he could not win at Notre Dame. If a personal matter is stopping him from succeeding, I actually would understand. Mr. Weis is involved in many matters more important than football. I just wish he was honest about the matter and took a personal leave or something.
But it is no longer the time for regrets. Charlie Weis has decided to move on and we have to as well. But there is another matter. A great number of people seem to think that Notre Dame can never compete again. One prominent voice is from Mark Kriegel. He passes off as a "reporter" from Fox Sports. He is also an arrogant buffoon.
This "reporter" actually took the time to investigate the situation at Notre Dame. His investigation apparently consisted of calling a fellow journalist, a famous Notre Dame graduate. I would go on to speculate that Mark Kriegel actually made the telephone call himself, though we have no proof of such labor by Mr. Kriegle. During the article Mr. Kriegle drudges up the same old arguments-academic standards, bad climate etc. Now, there are no suggestions for improvements from Mr. Kriegle. Apparently, that would be to much thought for Mr. Kriegle.
Now, Mr. Kriegle has spouted out foolish things before. Paying athletes and to ignore the NCAA. Mr. Kriegle is one example of how far wrong things are in college sports. If universities across the nation have vast stores of cash secreted away- then why are the same universities allowed to raise tuition? If we need to hire thieves, rapists and murderers to get National Championships; then the people who hired them should be fired and the Championships taken away. I mean if there were no declared champion from 1995, for example, would the country suffer in any way? We are continuously subjected to college athletes who are felons and coaches who continually offer them scholarships.
Recruits are allowed to switch commitments from school to school- with little or no ramifications. Athletes are occasionally punished for acts of violence, but certain programs are rather reluctant to pursue this course of action. Only idiots who agree with Mr. Kriegel would think this could continue. What should happen is that other schools be forced to make sure athletes attend class. Some famous athletes have graduated from a university without even being able to read or write. So you see Mr. Kriegle if you actually stopped wrong behavior at other universities-instead of suggesting that Notre Dame lower their standards, we would actually improve the situation of both college athletics and Notre Dame. I think that would be better.
