UConn Huskies, You're the Best!
Congrats, UConn, you're the best!
The Big East is oh so very proud of you.
Anyone who loves college football should be so very proud of you.
You showed us what heart and persistence are all about.
You took down mighty Notre Dame and you did it in such stunning fashion.
You did it under such very difficult circumstances.
You got it, 33-30, double overtime.
Randy Edsall, you're the best, you were so poised and summed it up so well at the end:
"For us, little-known Connecticut to come in here and beat this storied program. God bless Jazz and his family and these kids for what they've done."
UConn's biggest win...EVER!
Plenty of blue and white heroes to go around. Jordan Todman was a beast, an Irish-killer. Went for 130 yards on 26 carries, had a 96-yard kickoff return for a TD. Incredible.
Andre Dixon scored that game-winner in the second OT. Wow! He had 114 yards on 20 carries. Notre Dame's defense had no answer for Dixon and Todman.
Yes, the officials tried to prolong Notre Dame's agony. Tried to give it to the Irish, took the winning TD away on a "phantom" holding call. Even the announcers knew it wasn't a hold. Didn't matter.
Edsall and his guys persisted. They pressed on. They survived and they thrived.
They have been through so much this season. They mourned Jazz Howard's death as a team and we mourned with them. They had four heart-breaking, last-minute losses.
But this UConn team refused to quit, refused to be intimidated by mighty Notre Dame and its mystique.
Edsall will give the game ball to Howard's family. Class move by a classy coach.
Thanks Randy, thanks to you and your football team. The Big East is lucky to have you and college football fans everywhere are proud of you.
On that historic field in South Bend, you pulled it off.
You're the best!
