Kimbo Slice: Give Him Time
Kimbo Slice is possibly the biggest street fighter legend ever. He was essentially homeless and was fighting for money on the streets. Now, he is getting six figures per fight, and is one of Elite XC's biggest fighters.
I've read Internet forums and articles about how Kimbo will not amount to nothing in Mixed Martial Arts, but I have to disagree. Sure, he hasn't fought the biggest or best fighters (Cantrell, Tank, and Thompson), but he has shown major improvement in the cage.
I've heard people say that if he gets in the cage with a big name heavyweight that he will get destroyed. I would have to agree on that, simply because he hasn't had nearly as much time to develop and train in MMA as a fighter needs. He hardly has a ground game (except for a few sweeps and reversals that I saw against Thompson) or much of a takedown defense.
Anybody like Brock Lesnar, who is arguably one of the best wrestlers ever (NCAA Champion/All American multiple years as well as high school champion/All American), Tito Ortiz, if he fought heavyweight, Frank Mir, etc. would destroy Kimbo.
They would take him down and ground 'n' pound him, or use their Ju-Jitsu (Frank Mir) on him, because they certainly aren't going to beat him standing up and trying to strike with him. He hasn't had nearly as much time to train and develop a ground game and take down defense that he needs.
Bas Rutten WILL continue to train him in these major aspects of Mixed Martial Arts and WILL get him at least a decent ground game and take down defense to where he will be able to compete with the big name fighters eventually.
He is a pure talent with great striking ability standing up, and Bas Rutten will continue to train him on the ground and defense. He will eventually be one of the most dominant heavyweights in MMA, sooner rather than later.
