Fantasy Football Week 5: Tips, Trade Value Rankings for Top 100 Players
Fantasy trade value is ever in flux.
Injuries can have an effect on a near daily basis. Christian McCaffrey practicing Wednesday has his trade value back amid the elite. David Montgomery's knee injury makes him one of the players whose trade value took a dive.
Injuries to a player's supporting cast can make a major difference too. You always have to consider adjustments to a team's depth chart, whether the schedule is hitting a rough or easy stretch, the trend of a player's recent performances, etc. Trying to forecast the best players to target, and the worth of the players you roster, is an ever-changing and inexact science.

If you were one of the fantasy players smart enough to scoop Cordarrelle Patterson off waivers, the question you likely find yourself pondering is whether you ride this wave of production for as long as it goes or try to sell now because his trade value might never be higher.
On the one hand, Patterson is on pace to score 21 touchdowns this season. He's due for some major regression in that category. The question, then, is whether he's offered enough outside of that production to merit keeping.
His five touchdowns represent 35.9 percent of his fantasy value in PPR formats. Contrast that to Derrick Henry's four touchdowns accounting for 23.1 percent of his fantasy value or Najee Harris' two touchdowns representing just 16.1 percent of his fantasy value. Touchdowns tend to be volatile, and while it's possible Patterson will keep finding paydirt, you don't want to rely on it.
We also know he's never going to put up elite numbers of carries or rushing yards. Through four games, teammate Mike Davis has 22 more carries than Patterson.
So Patterson's long-term fantasy viability comes down to his role in the passing game, and given his past as a wide receiver and Atlanta's history of supporting multiple fantasy-relevant receivers, it's possible he continues to shine in PPR leagues based on that usage alone.
There is precedent for receiving backs posting huge seasons in PPR formats.
Patterson is tied for fourth among running backs in receptions (18), first in receiving yards (235) and tied for third in targets (22). It's clear that Atlanta sees him as an important weapon, especially in the passing game, and he's going to continue to have a role in this offense. That gives him realistic RB2 potential.
All you have to do is watch his highlights to see how valuable he is for Atlanta's offense, especially in the red zone. He's a mismatch nightmare for opposing defenses:
No, he's probably not going to finish as a top-five fantasy running back. If somebody is willing to give you a top-25 player for him, you should jump at that opportunity. A regression seems inevitable. But Patterson looks like a player who is going to be worth a starting spot, or at least flex consideration, for the rest of the season.
Don't settle for an offer you aren't thrilled with for the sake of trading him at the peak of his value. He's going to still produce for you. And if the Falcons ever realize that Patterson is their best offensive player and give him even more snaps, well, you'll be extremely glad you kept him around.
