UFC Stands for Ultimate Fighting Championship!

Dorothy WillisJun 13, 2008

Without question, UFC stands for Ultimate Fighting Championship.  One could easily argue though, in looking at the TUF series number 7, that UFC stands for "Uncontrollable Felonious Conduct"; especially after viewing the on-going destruction of property and hearing a spoiler for the last installment.

Now everyone is left guessing just which one of the boys being boys will be the one who kicks out a window of one of the UFC limos and is subsequently kicked off the show, and out of the UFC before the grand finale; that is, if the information leaked is reliable.

So now all of the voyeurs who enjoy nothing more than vicariously viewing the vicious destruction of a beautiful mansion will be left in limbo for the rest of the summer as the series ends.

Personally, I abhor this predictable portion of the TUF series.  I watch it only hoping that in future episodes I will be proved wrong and a more mature and responsible group of fighters will grace the mansion with their presence by actually cleaning up after themselves and leaving the house in the same condition it was in when they first entered it.  (Think of Matt Serra and Mac Danzig).

Hopefully, the producers will get a clue to how the public feels about seeing a beautiful piece of real estate being trashed which teaches impressionable young viewers to disrespect something that someone else has worked very hard to finance.

Witnessing young men (who are being offered what Dana White considers to be "the chance of a lifetime" to fight their way to a contract with arguably the most well respected MMA fighting organization in the world), stoop to alcoholic, drug using ("pot" on past series), vandalism, profane and lewd conduct eventually wears thin on hard working Americans adults trying to make it in today's economy.

Would you like to know how much is spent to rehab the mansion after each TUF season has ended?  I would.  And perhaps this is one reason that UFC has to keep fighters salaries down; so that the damages done to the house can be recouped.  Surely Dana doesn't have home owner's insurance on this house.

And could it be true as my youngest son alleges, that Dana condones and encourages this behavior to win the favor of the 18 to 34 aged viewers at which this series is aimed?

That would truly be ludicrous behavior for someone as tight with a penny as Dana White is, considering his extreme reluctance to raise the beginning wage levels of his fighters.

In the end, I am hopeful that either the format of the TUF series will change and have the fighters living in cells similar to those of the Shaolin monks. This way there is nothing to damage. Actual jail cells could be used to remind fighters and viewers of the consequences of reckless and uncontrolled actions.

After all, felonious actions deserve consequences, whenever and wherever they occur.

As Benjamen Franklin said, "Experience keeps a dear school, but a fool will learn in no other."
