FIFA To Blame For Ireland,s World Cup Exit

Tendai MzeeNov 19, 2009

There have been thousands of articles written about the Henry hand ball incident. The amazing thing is that everyone seems to be fixated on Henry's lack of integrity. Now don’t get me wrong I am not a Henry apologist in fact I agree with most that what the man did was wrong. In an Ideal none of this would ever occur on a football pitch, but the reality is that it happens and it’s happening every week from the very top down to the very bottom. To all those taking the moral high ground about this, i can only assume that you have never benefitted from a player of your club or country cheating to get positive results. I am not as unlucky as you guys but a lot of high profile incidents spring to mind namely Eduardo's dive against Celtic , Rivaldo clutching his head when the ball clearly did not get anywhere near his head at the world cup, Ngog 's Hollywood like dive against Birmingham the list is endless.  The game is question had a few incidents that are cheating but I did not see any Irish players say to the referee "I pulled his shirt sir it’s a free kick to France" or any such behavior. So I suggest we all stop expecting our sports people to be angels because that’s not going to happen. I think the best way to stamp this behavior out of this beautiful game of ours is to let the players know that there will consequences. A post match review and a three game ban would rid the game of this behavior. FIFA need to take a stand they need protect the game by outlawing the cheating. There has been enough talking its time the powers that be rid the game of this cynical disease before it infects the new generation. FIFA seems to spend a lot of its time politicking instead of focusing on these threats to the game. Down here in Australia the game is fighting to get noticed and the perception amongst the sport loving Aussies is that it’s a game played by cheats that spend more time play acting on the ground than actually playing. If players know that the punishment for being caught cheating is an extended spell on the sidelines or that their livelihood would be in danger they would certainly think twice before diving. Blame FIFA Ireland and FIFA do something before it’s too late. The problem we have though is that FIFA seems to be a confused bunch hell bent on killing the game. The seeding system is another example of the organisation ineptness rather than set out the system at the start of qualification they decide to wait until just before the play off to decide on the seeding why this cannot be set out at the start is a mystery to me. Lets set out the rules before the race is run
