What Does Big Phil Scolari's Appointment Mean For The Premier League Title Race?

Salaar ShamsiJun 12, 2008

He's the man of the moment, Luiz Felipe Scolari better known as "Big Phil" was revealed as Chelsea's new manager.

Scolari is currently managing the Portuguese national team featuring the likes of Deco, Ricardo, Quaresma and Cristiano Ronaldo. It goes without saying, he is no stranger to the spot light.

Scolari silenced his critics after he became Portugal's coach. He was quite annoyed after his achievements with Brazil were not acknowledged. They said he was lucky to have the likes of Ronaldo, Rivaldo and Ronaldinho on his side.

Scolari nipped them right in the bud, not so long ago, he guided them to the final of Euro 2004, only to lose out to minnows Greece.

He is an aggressive manager and probably Chelsea's man. After Jose Mourinho's departure, Avram Grant often shied away when he needed to step up to the plate.

I expect Big Phil to make those cheeky comments week in, week out. It will be like it was when Mourinho was in London. It will add another dimension to the title race.

In Scolari, Chelsea have a great tactician, a solid strategist and over all he has the fiery character which will add fire to the Premier League race.

If he thought he was mellow character, you'd be surprised, He once punched Sevilla's Ivica Dragutinovic after a match against Serbia(pictured above).

Alex Ferguson has been Manchester United's manager for over two decades, he is about to step down in a few seasons and he is hungry for more titles, Arsene Wenger has urged his youngsters to prove his faith in them while Rafael Benitez realizes it's about time to silence his critics on the domestic stage.

Spurs are beefing up their squad and could also be another surprise package.

I'm already bracing myself for next season in the Premier League. Scolari, Ferguson, Wenger and Benitez let the battle begin.

I hope we see even more drama and entertainment this time round.
