Arsenal's Forgotten Star
Hello everyone, this article is to remind you of Arsenal's highly talented BENCHWARMER Philippe Senderos.
Phillipe Senderos is a highly gifted and one of Arsenal's most underrated player. In the Arsene Wenger biography by Xavier Rivoire he reveals that Arsene Wenger consulted Tony Adams about making Senderos captain of the club before he made Thierry Henry club captain. This season he is yet to appear in Arsenal's Premier League campaign.
In the recently gone summer transfer window there were a lot of suppositions being made of William Gallas leaving Arsenal but instead of it Kolo Toure departed from Arsenal to the Eastlands. Apart from this Phillipe Senderos was returning to Arsenal from a season long loan spell from Serie A giants AC Milan. I thought of him to be a perfect replacement for Kolo Toure but, Arsenal signed Thomas Vermaelen from Ajax as his replacement.

The summer arrival of Thomas Vermaelen has seen him slip even further down. Unhappy with this Philippe opened his doors to change the club. Everton were very likely to sign him after the departure of Joleon Lescott. Maybe Arsenal would've even sold him if Johan Djorou didn't have picked up a knee injury while on international duty till The New Year.
He has only played in the carling cup this season. With his solid performance in the carling cup Mr.Wenger must have considered him to give him atleast a start in the Premier League. Wenger stated that he is most unlikely to rotate his defenders. With Gael Clichy injured, it would've have had been a great opportunity for him to step up by shifting Vermaelen to his earlier left back position and add Senderos in the centre but, it was Kieren Gibbs who was given the responsibility. Now with Kieren Gibbs injured too during the international duty it is Silvestre who is being given a chance and not him.
Frustrated Senderos has now stated "I need to seek a solution as I'm not playing for Arsenal," conceded Senderos. A change of clubs in the winter is an option - I am keeping all doors open. This is a difficult time. It is like a test that I have to come through, but I believe in God and have to stay strong."
Maybe this what a player is likely to do in such situation. In my opinion Arsenal should sell Gallas and place Senderos in the centre. He is even taller than Gallas and Vermaelen. No doubt Gallas and Vermaelen are doing a great job but they run along to the other end of the field to score goals and not stay back and protect the goal. It is the young Song who is left behind alone panicking. As Gallas will be out of contract this season and Arsenal offering him only a year extension there are a few rumours linking him to Inter and AC Milan, maybe Juventus are also keen to sign him.
So just hope to be the best for "The Forgotten Star".
