LeBron James on Nets' Big 3: 'Have We Forgot About KD, Steph and Klay?"

Adam WellsFeb 17, 2021

While the Brooklyn Nets have been the toast of the NBA since their acquisition of James Harden, LeBron James wanted to remind everyone of the last great big three in the league.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday night ahead of the Los Angeles Lakers' upcoming game against the Nets, James was asked if he could compare the Brooklyn trio to any group of offensive players in history.

"Have we forgot about KD, Steph [Curry] and Klay [Thompson] already?" James said:

Harden, Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving have given the Nets one of the most formidable offensive units in NBA history. They have only played a total of 186 minutes in seven games together due to injuries and the league's health and safety protocols, but Brooklyn has averaged 125.6 points in those games.

When the Warriors had Durant, Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson for three seasons from 2016-19, they led the NBA in scoring twice (2016-17, 2017-18) and in offensive rating twice (2016-17, 2018-19). They also reached the NBA Finals each of those three seasons, winning back-to-back titles in 2016-17 and 2017-18.

James knows all too well how good that Warriors group was. His Cleveland Cavaliers lost eight of nine games over two NBA Finals against them in 2017 and 2018. Golden State won those games by an average margin of 14.4 points.

The Lakers will host the Nets on Thursday in the first meeting between the two teams this season.
