Garret Wallow NFL Draft 2021: Scouting Report for Houston Texans LB
HEIGHT: 6'1 5/8"
WEIGHT: 220
POSITIVES
—Is clearly well-coached, as he plays with confidence.
—Has a great downhill trigger.
—Will shoot through blocks, not around them. Has an NFL level of physicality to his game.
—Great athlete and was looked at as a safety prospect for a time.
NEGATIVES
—On the ground too often when taking on blocks.
—Length, not just height but arm length, hurts him to the point where it could be his Achilles' heel.
2020 STATISTICS
90 TKL, 9 TFL, 2 SK, 1 PBU, 3 FF
NOTES
—Two-time All-Big 12.
—Did not attend the Senior Bowl because he tested positive for COVID-19.
—Was a high school safety before transitioning to linebacker at TCU.
OVERALL
If Garret Wallow were a couple of inches longer, particularly in his arms, he would be a clear-cut NFL starting linebacker. His coverage background, college production, athleticism on film and measured athleticism all check the boxes, but his length simply does not allow for him to get off blocks at the rate a clear-cut NFL starter needs to. At the very least, Wallow is an interesting linebacker project to take a flier on with the upside to be a quality contributor on special teams early on in his career.
