Slam This! TNA IMPACT! Recap
Messages needed to be sent and answered after this past Sunday's Slammiversary. On Thursday night, most of those questions got the answers, but more questions arose from tonight's broadcast of TNA IMPACT! Here's the buzz on the latest edition of IMPACT!
As the show opens, highlights are shown from Slammiversary as Kaz makes his entrance into the IMPACT! Zone.
First Bout: Samoa Joe defeats Kaz to retain TNA World Championship
As the bell rings, Kaz grabs the early offensive, but Joe recovers and uses all of his 280-pound frame to keep the control. Joe spends the majority of the match bouncing between his heavyweight and X-Division mentality to continue the assault, but the tide turns after a neckbreaker from Kaz.
Following a legdrop, Kaz prepares for the Kaz Slam, but Joe recovers with a powerbomb and STF. Kaz manages to get to the ropes, then gets the advantage with a launch bomb with a dash of enzuguiri. As Kaz goes up top, Joe catches him and prepares for the Muscle Buster, but Kaz counters it into a reverse DDT.
Kaz goes up top once again, and Joe recovers enough to nail some vicious chops before dropping his challenger with the Muscle Buster for the win. But his celebration is cut short as Booker T makes an appearance in the IMPACT! Zone.
Back from commercial, Booker T comes out and is still crying foul play after the controversial ending to the King of the Mountain Match. He then calls out the champion and asks him if he's really satisfied with the way the match ended. In the back, Kurt Angle makes a shocking announcement: He has put a hit out on his wife Karen.
Before the next bout, Captain of Team International, Daivari says that his team is here for one reason: To eliminate the other three teams in the World X Cup.
Second Bout: Team TNA defeat Team Japan (World X Cup Preview)
Naruki Doi and Masato Yoshino are representing Team Japan, while the Motor City Machine Guns are representing Team TNA in this X Cup Preview. Sabin and Yoshino come in off of tags, but after a second tag, the Guns have a brief advantage. But Speed Muscle (as they're called in Japan) take control with some quick high flying double teams.
Doi applies an unorthodox Octopus on Alex Shelley. Speed Muscle uses more double teams to keep the Guns grounded, until Shelley hits a turnbuckle faceplant and manages to tag in Sabin. After a Springboard, all four players are in, but a miscalculation gives Muscle control.
After a standing dropkick, the Guns recover and nail the Detroit Rock City Slam followed by a double shot of Sweet Chin Music for the victory.
In the back, Karen Angle hopes that her husband will come to his senses and call off the hit, but The Beautiful People are hellbent on taking her out. As they prepare for the kill, AJ Styles intervenes and chases off the two egomaniacs.
Back from break, Nash explains his actions at Slammiversary. But in order to keep the peace, he decides not to elaborate...that is, until Joe heads towards the ring and calls out Big Sexy. In the ring, Nash is trying to avoid the situation, but Joe keeps pushing the subject. Finally, Nash admits that "Joe can't beat Booker T!" With that, Joe tells him to take his rumors and shove them up his @$$! Joe then walks out of the ring towards the back.
Third Bout: LAX defeat Robert Roode & James Storm to retain TNA World Tag Team Championships
Homicide and Roode start the match with Homicide gaining the early advantage with a hiplock and dropkick. Storm comes in just to get planted by a drop toe hold, and Hernandez comes in to pick up the slack. The Super Mex keeps control as he tags Homicide back in.
But thanks to Jacqueline and Storm, Roode takes control as the Tennessee Cowboy comes in to continue the assault. As Roode comes, Homicide recovers, hits an inverted atomic drop and tags in Hernandez. Super Mex comes in and cleans house, sending Roode to the other side of the ring with a Gringo Toss and then powerslams Storm.
Hernandez manages to block The Payoff, but as he goes for the Border Toss, Storm hits him with a loaded Last Call to steal the gold for his team. However, Hector Guerrero steps in to protest the outcome of the match as TNA goes to break.
Back from break, and thanks to the efforts of Guerrero, the referee restarts the match. Following a series of cheap shots and double teams, Hernandez recovers and hits a double clothesline and back breaker. Following a Latin Splash, Homicide hits the Gringo Cutter on Roode while his partner drops Storm with a Super Powerbomb for the victory.
But their victory is short lived as Roode, Storm, and Jacqueline assault the tag champs, handcuff them to the corners and tear them apart with leather straps. Also a couple of the knockouts are having a brawl in the back as Gail Kim, ODB and The Beautiful People are locking horns and claws.
Back on IMPACT!, it's time for Knockouts action. Apparently, Gail Kim got the memo as she wastes no time picking up where she left off in the back.
Fourth Bout: Gail Kim defeats Velvet Sky
Before the match even begins, Kim ambushes Sky as she makes her entrance, and the battle is officially on as Sky rolls Kim into the ring. But her advantage is short lived as Kim recovers and takes down her opponent. Unfortunately for Kim, Sky begins to focus on the injured knee as she rams it against the ring. As Kim is tripped, Sky locks in the Figure Four, but Kim keeps fighting and reverse the submission.
She follows it with a clothesline and modified neckbreaker followed by an Over Castle. As she heads up top though, Sky moves out of the way and begins pummeling and choking Kim once more. As Sky tries to apply the paper bag, Kim fights out adn hits the Kim Drop for the win. Afterwards, Kim gets some payback by placing the Brown Paper Bag to Velvet Sky.
In the back, Roode and Storm are celebrating and boasting about their assault on LAX. Then they challenge the tag champs to a fight as the show goes to break.
Fifth Bout: Alex Koslov defeats Curry Man (World X Cup Preview)
As the bell rings, Koslov has the early advantage, but Curry gains control until a dance off ensues in the middle of the ring between the two. Curry regains control with his Turnbuckle Bump and Slingshot Suplex. But Koslov recovers and hits a Russian Slam.
Curry Man regains control and prepares for the Spice Rack, but Koslov counters and takes down Curry with a neckbreaker and Springboard Splash for the win for Team International.
In the back, the main event for Victory Road is officially set: In Houston, it will be hometown hero Booker T facing Samoa Joe for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship. Ironically enough, it was in July two years ago that Booker T won the World Heavyweight Championship while with WWE. Could history repeat itself?
Sixth Bout: Sonjay Dutt defeat Consequences Creed
Dutt tries to gain the early control, but Creed gains control with the Conse-punches. Creed gets suckered moments later and gets nailed with a Springboard Dropkick. As Creed tries to fight back, Dutt uses clubbing blows to the back to keep him grounded.
Creed recovers and lays some punches, but thanks to a low blow, Dutt is able to hit the Hindu Prince Splash for the victory. While Dutt awaits the arrival of SoCal Val, Jay Lethal sneaks up and gets some payback against his former friend. But he also lets Dutt know that next week, @ The Pink Taco, he will finish what he started.
As IMPACT! returns from break, Team 3D (representing Kurt Angle) as well as Christian Cage, Rhino, and Matt Morgan (representing AJ Styles) surround the ring for the main event.
Main Event: Kurt Angle defeats AJ Styles (Lumberjack Match)
As the match begins, AJ has the early advantage, and as Kurt goes in for some quick hits, Styles sends him out to get assaulted by Cage, Morgan, and Rhino. Styles returns to the offensive with a flying forearm shot, but Angle sends him outside to Team Angle. Styles avoids the attack and returns on the offensive on Angle.
Angle flings him outside and Angle's Representatives waste no time attacking him as they assault him and take out Rhino with a reverse 3D. Back from break, Angle has the advantage, but Styles hits a Discus clothesline, leaping forearm and back suplex, followed by a backbreaker slam, but Angle kicks out.
Following an interference from Brother Ray, Angle hits the Olympic Slam for the win. Following the match, Team Angle is setting up Team Styles for a wood call, but all of a sudden, Abyss returns to the IMPACT! Zone, and after cleaning house, chokeslams Tomko through a table.
AJ has Angle set up on a table, but Angle moves and locks in the Ankle Lock. But Karen comes out to intervene only to get taken out by Knockouts Champion Awesome Kong. Kurt drags AJ's body over to Karen's and celebrates as IMPACT! goes off the air.
