TCU OR TEXAS: WHICH TEAM DESERVES A SHOT IF BOTH REMAIN UNDEFEATED?

lottermanNov 18, 2009

Listening to ESPN radio this morning I had the extreme displeasure of hearing Dick Vitale blather on and on about different subjects surrounding the world of college football. Vitale is one of the main reasons why I no longer have a keen interest in collegiate hoops, watch enough college basketball this year and by mid-season the guy becomes like lice; he gets under your skin and you scratch and scratch until the blood comes but you can't seem to get yourself permanently deloused. Now he wants to pugnaciously force his opinion of who should be playing for the BCS Championship!! And who might you ask does Dick think should be playing in the BCS title game? None other than the TCU Horned Frogs.

I'm sorry TCU fans but what little support you had from the Lotterman has now vanished just like JJ Reddick's jock strap after Dick Vitale was seen coming outa the Duke locker room a few years ago. Dick Vitale is not someone you want on your bandwagon. But anyway, moving right along to the whole TCU/Texas dilemma. Dick Vitale along with others feel that TCU will get screwed out of the BCS title game unless Florida, Alabama or Texas have a slip up in their up coming rivalry games. Now the question I have is this: If this scenario plays out like most think it will, meaning if Texas remains undefeated and wins the Big 12 Championship game and if Alabama and Florida are both undefeated when they meet in the SEC Championship game then the winner of that game advances to the BCS title game, wouldn't Texas get screwed if they were left out of the big game?

Texas has been in the top 3 since the pre-season would it really be fair now that the time has come to play for all of the marbles to just cast them aside so poor, pitiful, underrated, underappreciated little TCU can get their shot for a change? Maybe the BCS pollsters will put Boise St. and TCU in the Championship game and then we'll have the most least watched National Championship game in the short but tumultuous history of the BCS and that would add yet another nail in their coffin and hopefully bring us closer to a playoff. TCU is a really good football team and yes, I think they could more than hold their own against "the big boys" but if Texas remains undefeated throughout the Big 12 Championship game, then it should be Texas, not TCU, that goes on to play for the title.

And why not Cincinnati? If the Bearcats go on to beat Illinois and Pitt they would be a better pick than TCU. So far Cincinnati's list of teams beaten is more impressive than TCU's to say the least; Cincinnati might even be a better team than Texas at this point. Everybody wants to root for the underdog. It's why so many naysayers are cheering for TCU, they wanna see the little guy go on to win it all then everyone feels good afterwards. TCU represents the small and oppressed while Texas, Florida and Alabama represent the colossal, exorbitant oppressors. So TCU deserves a shot at the title? Well it's like what William Money told Little Bill in "Unforgiven" as he pointed that Spencer rifle in his face: "Deserves got nothing to do with it".
