Auburn: A New Season Is Upon Us and I'm Ready

Tiger HistalmosJun 12, 2008

Greetings one and all! I am Tiger Histalmos, a recent graduate of Auburn University. I follow the Tigers like no other. I once was the host of "The Dream," a sports talk show on WEGL 91.1 FM (the student radio station).

I have a deep passion for Auburn sports, especially football. This page will be dedicated completely to all things Auburn and relative news in sports. I follow many sports, but college sports are my favorite to keep up with. But no matter, time for the reason you are all here, my amateur analysis.

As we all know, college football is many days away. It has driven me and several of my comrades nuts waiting on such a momentous occasion: the beginning of a new season.

To those of you who do not understand this feeling, I will put it to you in this way: Imagine for five months out of the year, you can see your significant other every day, and do whatever you wish. But for the remaining seven months, you only get to see them twice.

That is pretty much how it is during the off season. Though with many outlets of college sports media nowadays, it is easier to get through it. I for one have already started looking for and getting the preseason magazines for the upcoming season. It is a passion that nothing else can compare to, especially in the deep south. I look at the clock each and every day, waiting for it to come.

In other Auburn news, the search for a new head baseball coach continues.  I for one thought that former head coach Tom Slater should have been given another year and Butch Thompson should have been fired to see if things would turn around.

Several names have been thrown in, and some, like Baylor's head coach Steve Smith and Louisville's head coach John Cohen (who is now at Mississippi State), have bowed out. This will be an interesting move considering this is AD Jay Jacobs's first major hire in a major Auburn sport. More to come later as this develops.

Also the Auburn Men's and Women's track teams are at the NCAA Championships, and the Men are looking for an upset to win the national title in similar fashion as the women, who won the title in 2006.

National titles in any sport are great in my opinion, especially this year since Auburn's swim teams couldn't quite pull it out to win it all this year.

It is in the second day, and four more athletes are in the finals, making the total to nine athletes in various events.  More to come in the following days.

I hope many of you enjoy my amateur notes and thoughts, and I look forward to cover more as football fast approaches. I will end each article with two words near and dear to my heart.

WAR EAGLE!
