Every Saturday Is a Play Off, 3 Majors & 3 Minors
It’s that time in 1A football when people must start making some decisions, not final decisions, but putting the teams in spots, to make a move, that’s part of the great tradition that is big-time college football. There is very little left from the golden years of college football, Coaches with million dollar salaries, & multi- billion dollar TV contracts, has seen to that, a game that once was played in a little under 2 hours how takes 4 hours, unless it’s the championship game then it could take 5 hours. But one thing that has stood tall is the post season scramble, no other sport is like it, of course you have the 24 hour sport media salesmen talking up a play-off format- But football is the only game were every completion is a play-off game. The chatter starts the very 1st week and last – forever!
Starting now, it really kicks into high gear, all the media folks, be it the giants to the locals, start with the guessing game, and the few that are lucky enough to be voting, or pushing buttons on computers, well they start to sweat!
Damn ain’t this fun!
With 2 weeks + 1 play-off week, left in the season, Alabama, Florida & Texas are in the driver’s seat at least for the BCS trophy, but remember the AP still has its own trophy, and there is nothing wrong with that one going to another school. - 2 champions- more the merrier! You think either one of the schools would be pissed? Of course not- their fans would be too busy bragging, the player’s too busy chasing cheerleaders, and the coaches to busy asking for raises.
So let’s say Texas and Florida win out- then it’s Texas & Florida in the BCS championship game, then Alabama would go to the Sugar bowl to take on either TCU or Cincinnati, I think Boise State, with that close call against a bad Lou tech team 2 weeks ago their out- hey if they want to play with the big boys- schedule some big boys! Of the three no –loss second tier teams Cincinnati may have the best chance. They have a finish to the season that is as tough a finish as anyone besides Florida or Alabama. The Bobcats had a thriller against top 25 West Virginia, next up is Illinois who beat Michigan by 25 points, then finish the season with a top 15 maybe top 10 opponent Pittsburgh, in the city with 3 rivers. If the Bobcats can win those 2- they may be playing in the Sugar bowl with a legit chance to claim an AP trophy. Having said, at the moment they really are only; Texas, Florida, & Alabama.
But all three still have historic rivalries coming up, Florida & FSU, Bama & Auburn and Texas & Texas A&M, if one of those teams falters, unless its by a large margin, I still not sure TCU or Cincinnati could pass them in the BCS poll, but it would open up a chance for a spilt championship. As far as one loss teams, it’s over for them, unless one of the major players that is currently undefeated.
3 weeks to go and down to 3 majors, & 3 minors.
College football is just too much fun!
