NFL Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups: Week 11

Kevin RobertsNov 17, 2009

With plenty of injuries across the board to several key players in the league, it's time to take a look at who could possibly be available on your waiver wire that might be of interest or value to your team.

Owners are scrambling or, at the very worst, stressing over who to pick up or trade for to replace injured running backs such as Ronnie Brown , Cedric Benson, Michael Turner, and Brian Westbrook , while there is also question as to the availability of Kyle Orton and a few others.

Even aside from injury, now is the time in the season where a team hovering around .500 really needs to stack up on gems that are just entering their 2009 primes .

The following players are available in over 50 percent of leagues and would make fine additions to any roster decimated by injuries or poor play.

Brady Quinn, QB, Cleveland Browns (Available in 96 percent of leagues)

The nice thing about Quinn is that he has nowhere but up to go from here on out. The Cleveland Browns did a cruel thing to bring him back against a tough Baltimore Ravens defense, and I like him to respond well to a Detroit Lions pass defense that gets killed by the quarterback.

There's a very real possibility that their inept ability to defense the pass ends this week, but if Quinn is every going to make himself into anything, it will start with a shockingly great performance in Week 11.

This is purely a matchup call, however, and Quinn is nowhere close to a long-term solution.

Other notable QBs available in over 50 percent of leagues: Alex Smith, Vince Young, Mark Sanchez

Justin Forsett, RB, Seattle Seahawks (82 percent)

Forsett took over for an injured Julius Jones in Week 10 and never looked back, rushing for 123 yards and a touchdown, while hauling in five receptions for 26 yards.

Forsett is an extremely quick and athletic back that should benefit immensely from Jones going down to an injury and is slated to start Week 11 against the Minnesota Vikings. It's a tough matchup, but there aren't many better options available.

Ladell Betts, RB, Washington Redskins (71 percent)

Despite rushing for 70 yards and a touchdown in relief of Clinton Portis two weeks ago and 114 touchdowns and another score in Week 10, Betts is still getting very little respect. Portis is still suffering from post-concussion issues, and despite Betts' semi-difficult matchup with the Dallas Cowboys, he still figures to be a solid start this week and as long as Portis remains out.

Jason Snelling, RB, Atlanta Falcons (86 percent )

Snelling picked up where Michael Turner left off due to an ankle injury, as he rushed for 61 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries, while catching three passes for 32 yards. Turner is expected to miss Week 10, and possibly longer, with an unspecified ankle injury, which vaults Snelling to the starting spot. With a decent matchup against a so-so New York Giants run defense, he makes a decent play this week .

Other notable RBs available in over 50 percent of leagues: Darren McFadden, Michael Bush, Ryan Moats

Chris Chambers, WR, Kansas City Chiefs (67 percent )

Like Ladell Betts, Chambers simply isn't being respected as a reliable option. His matchup wasn't good last week, and it isn't particularly great this week (Pittsburgh Steelers), but he has delivered two solid performances in his only two games with KC and is Matt Cassel's second option.

Two straight games of three catches and 60-plus yards says Chambers can be an effective WR3 on your team this week and beyond. Besides, it's almost guaranteed that Cassel will be passing all day long.

Also, with Dwayne Bowe suspended, Chambers should see his value rise.

Donnie Avery, WR, St. Louis Rams (63 percent )

Don't get too excited about Avery's 60-plus-yard and two-touchdown performance against the New Orleans Saints. We're just happy to see the guy healthy, let alone doing anything close to helping a fantasy team out.

He still isn't a consistent option, but as long as he's on the field, he should get some solid looks near the end of games and is always a candidate for a garbage score, as well as followed excessive celebration. As long as Marc Bulger gets decent protection in Week 11, Avery could have another successful day against a beatable Arizona Cardinals secondary.

Other notable WRs available in over 50 percent of leagues: Robert Meachem, Muhsin Muhammad, Kenny Britt

Dustin Keller, TE, New York Jets (53 percent )

Keller is proving to be a fairly reliable option, as Mark Sanchez has now confided in him for at least six catches and 50-plus yards in each of the past two weeks. Keller should continue his consistent effort as a solid safety net for the rookie quarterback and could help you if you are in a bind at tight end.

James Casey, TE, Houston Texans (99 percent )

Casey should be returning from a knee injury this week and at the very worst should be available for week 12. With Owen Daniels done for the season with a knee injury of his own and no other Houston tight ends stepping up, it could be Casey's starting job to lose. With great hands and solid athleticism, he could make for quite the gem late in the season.

Other notable TEs available in over 50 percent of leagues: Kevin Boss, Fred Davis, Benjamin Watson
