LSU Needs More Cupcakes On The Menu
LSU has always been one of my favorite teams and fan bases. It is one of the most exciting and dramatic football programs in the country. I have been around SEC Football for more than 40 years now. In all that time there has been one constant in the LSU program. LSU has never been able to get up consistently for the small give me games. Last year it was Troy, this year is was Louisiana Tech and I can run off a list back at least forty years. I do not know if the players and culture of LSU have a soft spot for the little man, or if they just do not reset their priorities every week and are caught looking ahead.
LSU needs to add more cupcakes to their schedule. Instead of scheduling Washington, LSU needs to schedule USC. Instead of Louisiana Tech, LSU needs to schedule Boise State. Instead of UL Lafayette, LSU needs to schedule Texas or Oklahoma. Instead of Tulane, LSU needs to schedule Georgia Tech. With all of these cup cake teams added to the schedule, LSU would likely win the SEC West next year and maybe the conference its self.
If LSU keeps all these difficult teams on the schedule LSU is bound to slip up. In 1958 LSU had their undefeated season. In the majority of seasons in history LSU has dropped at least one game where they were heavy favorites. It is like a historical right of passage of all LSU teams.
There is no team with more talent than LSU. Boise State or TCU would take LSU's third string talent and go undefeated. LSU nearly knocked off the number one and two teams in the nation this year in rebuilding mode. Great teams are cup cakes for LSU. This LSU squad ran a good Auburn team off the field this year. This was the same Auburn team that ran Louisiana Tech off the field.
If LSU is going to compete nationally next year, they will likely have to go undefeated regular season. They will have to find a way to get up for these give me games. If I had to look for trap games next season one would be McNeese St. and the other La. Monroe. The addition of North Carolina and West Virginia will certainly add to the Tiger performance next season.
I think LSU has the best chance schedule wise for an undefeated season next year. The harder the schedule the better Tigers play. LSU will be the pre season favorite in the SEC West next year. Look for the Tiger Bowl and the show down with Bama in Baton Rouge to predict LSU's fate in the SEC next year!
