Does BMW Really Think They Have a Chance to Win the Title With Kubica?

Milan PetrinecJun 11, 2008

Last Sunday, BMW Sauber recorded their first victory in this combination. Now as I have heard, Robert Kubica is starting to talk about having a serious chance of winning the driver's title in F1 championship this season.

But, does he really have the chance to succeed?

Honestly, I don't think so. BMW had made a big step forward on one hand, but on the other, they are still behind Mclaren and Ferrari.

Of course, if the drivers of both top teams keep on doing mistakes like in the last two GP's, then BMW does have the strength to rob the title. But not if the Mclaren and Ferrari drivers will be at their best.

But we got to give credit to the BMW crew (I think Nick Heidfeld was the true winner of the GP in the end).  When you get the chance to grab as many points as possible, you have to use it.

Okay, let's say the rest of the season will be held on a dry track. Kubica is certainly getting stronger with every GP, no doubt about it, but the car is just the third best in the starting field.

Of course, a few rainy GP's and the Ferrari guys are out of the game, as both Kimi and Felipe are not able to make good on the wet track. Lewis on the other hand, has the ability to control the car (and win even if he had touched the barrier—you gotta have a bit of luck as well, of course).

And Robert is good at the wet track as well, so maybe a tiny chance of holding the others behind.

Even though I am stating here that Kubica will not become the world champion this year, I cannot even try to make a guess who will.

Seems like all the drivers are making many mistakes this season (honestly, I don't like the F1 rules changing every year since 2002—maybe it is interesting for some people, but they are not changing the rules in football every year either) and therefore everything is possible.

But, as for now, I would say that it will be Kimi or Lewis.
