Atlanta is one step away from the World Series for the first time since 2001, and to get past the Dodgers' deep lineup, it must rely on its young starting pitchers who performed well in the first two rounds of the postseason.ย
In Game 1, the NL East champion will call upon ace Max Fried to oppose Walker Buehler, who is leading off his third straight series for L.A.ย

The main draw of the NLCS to neutrals may be the lengthy list of power hitters on both rosters, but Game 1 could be all about the deep pitching staffs.
Atlanta and Los Angeles come into Monday's matchup with three days of rest, and both Fried and Buehler are starting on regular schedules.
Buehler produced the better numbers of the two hurlers in the wild-card round and NLDS, as he struck out eight batters in each four-inning appearance.ย The right-handed hurler has struck out at least seven opponents in each of his eight postseason starts dating back to 2018.
Fried opened his 2020 postseason account with seven scoreless innings against Cincinnati in the wild-card round, but he conceded four earned runs to Miami in NLDS Game 1. The pair of starts were the first two in his career. He appeared in relief roles in 2018 and 2019 and pitched four times against the Dodgers in the 2018 NLDS.
Buehler did allow five earned runs to Atlanta in that series, but that was also his first postseason start. He conceded nine earned runs in his next 39.1 playoff innings.ย
If both starters turn in quality starts over five or six innings, the game could be decided by which bullpen slips up first.
Atlanta has not allowed a run since the eighth inning of Game 1 against Miami, while Los Angeles experienced some troubles in the latter innings versus San Diego.ย
Kenley Jansen and Adam Kolarek both allowed a pair of earned runs in relief, and if they struggle even in the slightest fashion, Atlanta could take the lead.ย
The Braves produced 11 runs in the seventh inning or later versus Cincinnati and Miami, including six in the seventh frame of NLDS Game 1 versus the Marlins.ย
If Atlanta's relievers remain strong in the final few innings and its bats produce a run or two off Jansen, Kolarek or others, it could take the early advantage in the NLCS.
