Is Van Persie Injury Threat To Arsenal Season? No Way

Ashraf habibNov 15, 2009

This surely is the season for troubled, Arsenal. It certainly, is. Four years without a trophy is insulting to the mighty Londoners, Arsenal. As club boss, Arsene Wenger assured everyone at the club, the gunners chase looks every inch, the perfect one, which can not be disputed with 52 goals in the bag, hardly when 10 premier league games have been played.

Arsenal, are placed second ahead of Manchester United, but, the news of top notch, Robin van Persie, going down like a debris against Italy during a friendly match, is not the best news for Wenger and the team.

Van Persie, Arsenal’s top striker last season, has played a huge part in the club’s surge to the runners-up position in the premiership. Wenger described the Arsenal forward as the best in the business. The news will not be welcome at Emirates with Arsenal boss known for de-campaigning international outings for his stars. Most probably, he is going to ask himself, did it really merit van Persie, who was voted the star of last month, turning out for this friendly game even after having already made it for the World Cup finals to be played in South Africa? However, it is too late to give an answer for this question.

The Arsenal forward’s turnaround after numerous injury setbacks was seen by many as the best chance for the London club. The perfect combination with Cesc Fabregas and Andrei Arshavin had reminded many including Wenger of the days of the unbeaten group of 2004. Does van Persie’s demise mean Arsenal, are out of the chase?

Arsenal, do have a big group of stars, even those coming from injury, ready to fill in.

Eduardo, Rosicky and Samir Nasri have all stepped in so well for the London club on their return from injuries.

It is time for wenger to give Arshavin the opportunity to play alongside Eduardo since van Persie is out for sometime.

Arshavin played a huge role for his Russian club, Zenith Petersburg, playing a central striker’s role.

The Arsenal boss has stubbornly insisted the striker, plays wide. Arshavin has always been denied scoring opportunity playing wide. However, he has still proved he can deliver at the wings. The four goals he scored at anfield during his opening days with arsenal exposed the talent in his boots.

Aaron Ramsey, is a fantastic talent being wasted staying on the bench. With van Persie and Nicklas Bendtner out of the frame, Fabregas, who has a commendable goal record for the gunners could still be pushed forward to absorb the Wales playmaker.

A lot has happened to Arsenal in the last three years. It has been exposed this season. The anger to smash teams is ripe and the players have realised they need to win something. It has been evident with the big names in the club. Fabregas, Arshavin and crocked van Persie have all echoed that.

The group feels they have let down their manager and the fans for a long time, playing beautiful football but, ending up empty handed.

With or without van Persie, this should be the year for the gunners.
