This huge blow only means another name to the ever-growing list of injured Arsenal players.
Arsenal have been in stunning form with van Persie playing a major role as the lone striker. The 26 year old is one of the main leaders in the young Arsenal squad and is vital in creating and opening up play.
The injury now leaves a gaping hole with who should become the lone striker. Usually the role would be bestowed towards lanky Dane Nicklas Bendtner, but he too is injured. So who should receive the central forward role?
Eduardo Da Silva
Since his horrific injury in 2008, the Croatian forward has made a strong and successful comeback to the Arsenal first team.
This season Wenger has primarily used the Brazilian-born striker as a winger but with van Persie and Bendtner injured, Eduardo may be given the central role.
The 26 year old is a quick and tricky striker with great movement and a vicious finish. He has the rare talent of being icy cool when in front of goal.
Andrei Arshavin
Although primarily a winger, the little Russian is capable of being a devastating center forward. Although not the biggest on the pitch, the Russian magican is certainly one of the deadliest, and the footballing world knows he can score goals.
Putting him as a center forward would not be the worst idea. The 28 year old has a lethal finish and is blessed with speed and intelligence.
Theo Walcott
The England star is close to returning for the Gunners and this could be a sensational chance to prove himself as a central striker. The pacey Englishman has highlighted that he wants to play as a center forward and with two main strike forces out for Wenger, why not Walcott?
The 20-year-old's devastating pace would cause huge problems down the middle and his ability to finish is also a huge feature.
Carlos Vela
The Mexican international is arriving back from injury and will need a week to settle in, but this is a chance for the 20-year-old to establish himself in the first team.
The youngster has a huge future but needs experience to grow, and at this rate he is lacking sufficent experience. He is a capable center forward who has tricks, pace and balance to ensure goals come his way.
So who should become the new center forward whilst Robin van Persie and Nicklas Bendtner are treated for injuries?
