Most impressive accomplishment in sports: Your thoughts
Yes this seems to be out of the mainstream of certain sports of today. but if you had to choose the greatest accomplishment, i would have to say Lance Armstrongs 7 Tour De France victories.
of course well have the negative that he couldn't attain it naturally so it doesn't count. And even though i don't consider Barry Bonds accomplishments legit yet i do with Lance it doesn't come without doubters.
Lets forget all the allegations for a moment that Lance used some performance enhancers to do the job. do we also know that he would get tested a ton every year. we know Bonds didn't. Why is it that when someone is doubted that we don't understand all the criteria behind it.
I for one completely believe in this amazing accomplishment. This guy had cancer and got a second chance in life. Many people who have escaped death feel the need to owe it to themselves and whoever else to show their gratefulness. They have a new lease on life and don't hold anything back or get complacent. I can understand this even though i hadn't gone through something like that.
Lets get to the amazing feat. Just doing the Tour alone is an amazing event. Two weeks of riding more than a Marathon each day averaging about 120-130 miles a day. and its not all straight. Does anyone remember what its like riding a bike uphill. how about doing it for a long extended period of time. Now how about for a few days. Just riding a bike on the road for awhile can be tiring. But to not only do all that grueling riding but to do it for 2 weeks and win 7 years in a row is absolutely unbelievable. Oh yes and you don't just win cruising along, its going all out for each days event. I just remember taking it for granite, oh Lance is riding why do the others bother. Its kind of funny how it rhymes saying Tour De Lance. how that just flows is kind of ironic, don't you think.
To be honest i didnt even care about this event until a roommate was sitting in his room watching the event talking all about it. so as i followed a little more it started to amaze me when i knew more about the whole thing.
I don't consider Lance the greatest athlete by any means, this is more about endurance, but this to me is the greatest accomplishment in sports. It also helped that he was a triathlete, and for those who don't know, he was a marathon runner first. Biking wasn't his first gig.
Just winning the Tour De France(or Lance lol) is incredible. but to do it 7 times in a row is just mind boggling, you just became numb to his accomplishment, like oh yeah just another Tour victory for Lance, no biggy.
This is like the ultimate test to someones pure desire to excel and be very grateful for the life they've been given. Its not just the most impressive accomplishment, but its also a good lesson in life.
