Falcons May Have A Secret Weapon Waiting to Be Released!!!

RYAN KILGORENov 13, 2009

Back in preseason our so far great general manager Mr. Dimitroff made a trade to pick up Tye Hill from the St. Louis Rams. I have to admit i did have very mixed emotions. On one hand we definitely needed to make some moves, because our secondary at the time had been getting burned and burned bad. This marks the first time we've had a staff that was willing to make moves to try and fix a problem.

Then on the other hand, who is this Tye Hill? Never really heard of him. I mean you still have people like Ty Law as a free agent out on the market, why not get some veteran leadership in the locker room? Ok so we got a new Falcon on board, when will we get to see him play? Naturally, your trying to figure out what we look like as a team. Then "am i reading this right" i said. The Falcons are signing another defensive back and he's a former player coached under coach smith's system back when he was defensive coordinator in Jacksonville? That player was Brian Williams, and the falcons took no time in putting him into the line up. In the first game we saw him grab an interception and a nice run back. Then we saw the red zone play and Williams went down. This is not good, Peria Jerry is down and now Brian Williams. Its been weeks and all we keep hearing about Hill is he's still trill trying to learn the playbook. Ok now i'm concerned, because were still not getting the consistent pass rush we need to be getting to keep our defense off the field.

So it's back to Chris Houston and Brent grimes or maybe Chevis Jackson and Christopher Owens?

So we headed into Monday Night Football, the entire nation is watching. The Saints marched down the field and Drew Brees threw to his right and there was Tye Hill getting beat for a touchdown. He would never return do to an injury. Ok so at least for a brief moment the trade was not looking so hot. Then on Sunday against the redskins, we saw Jason Campbell throw to his right and the ball was tipped. This time Tye Hill was there to pick this one off. Now as a fan when my team gets an interception, i always want it to be returned for six. And on this day i would get my wish.

Hill, turned around and made sure he wasn't touched. The speed i saw and the confidence in his running style, raised a very interesting question. What is the one area of our football team that hasn't given us a spark........our special teams!! Now that's what we need right there is someone back in the end zone ready and confident to take it to the house! If u watch the film, Hill out ran everyone and was clearly the fastest player on the field during his 60+ interception return.

So here is the glaring question.

Should the Falcons try Tye Hill at kick returner to see if maybe he can give our special teams a big spark heading into the second half of the season? Were going to need that spark if we expect to make some noise in the playoffs.
