1 Who I Am and What I Do... Inside The Outside Of The Bengals

Matt FinkeNov 13, 2009

For all of you who are not familiar with the Marvin Lewis Community Fund I will give you the quick mission: we seek to empower, educate, and inspire individuals in the Greater Cincinnati region.  We do this in many ways but mainly through our events and our programs.  Since Coach Lewis created the foundation we have touched over 500,000 lives in the Greater Cincinnati area and beyond with our work.

Next Tuesday we are back at it again promoting education in Cincinnati Public Schools (CPS) through our Learning is Cool (LIC) Program.  This will be our third "Whatever your Occupation, It's Important to Get an Education" appearance.

These usually include Bootsy Collins *whenever I mention Bootsy I reserve the right to play this awesome piece of Classic Bengal Fame http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F4zu61ht9Nc, Channel 12 personalities Bob Herzog *known for other things http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kT-gVBfzQLk and Jen Dalton, a local business executive, and a Cincinnati Bengals player.

So far we have been to Cheviot Elementary with Cintas CEO Scott Farmer and DT Domata Peko and Westwood Elementary with Vice President of Operations for Baker Concrete Mike Schneider and CB Johnathan Joseph.  The appearances have been amazing and the kids absolutely loved it.  It's amazing how well the Bengals interact with the kids and really help develop the community.

MLCF is about to take off to meet with the LIC rep and principal for the next school we will having our appearance at... No details on the CPS school but Bootsy, Jen, Bob, Greg Ossmann - Regional Director of Business Development and Community Relations for Mercy Health Partners, and Bengals Safety Roy Williams will be there...

I have met Roy before at our Hometown Huddle back in October.  The NFL puts on this event yearly along with the United Way.  Players are invited but it is not manditory; we had over 25 Bengals there helping out on their day off!!  Roy pitched in on everything and was an MVP of painting park benches.  Not to mention the guy is hilarious and a character; amazing to think he is one of the hardest hitting safety's in the league for the past 8 years.  Today he was placed on the IR for the year... not cool.

This will be a little bit of what my blog will be about... I get to work to help benefit my hometown, Cincinnati and at the same time get to do with the help of my favorite sports team, the Cincinnati Bengals.  I hope to promote MLCF while letting you know of some of the other ways the Bengals make a difference in our community.  Photos, video, interviews are just some of the ways I'm going to try and shed some light on what Coach Lewis is able to do to improve this city.  My experiences being a young male working with his favorite team may come up from time to time FYI.
