Will Wimbledon Ever See Roddick Win a Grand Slam?

Jack JohnsonNov 13, 2009

Andy Roddick has played in three Wimbledon finals so far in his tennis career, but he is yet to be victorious at SW19. On all three occasions he has lost to Roger Federer, whose dominance on grass is just unquestionable.

Roddick's best chance of winning Wimbledon may have passed him by. This year, was his best chance, with Rafael Nadal out with injury and he took full advantage. That epic five set match with Lleyton Hewitt and then the outstanding victory over Andy Murray in the semi-finals put him in good stead as he faced Federer in the final.

The final itself was going Roddick's way. He won the first set 7-5 before losing set points in the second to lose it 7-6. The third set was exactly the same, but Roddick fought back to win the fourth by six games to three.

The last set was possibly one of the best ever, even better than Federer v Nadal in 2008. Finishing, 16-14 to Federer, Roddick was drained and upset. He knew this was his chance, but once again the Swiss guard stood in his way.

So, will he win Wimbledon?

To be honest I dont think he will. A-Rod is a fantastic player, his serve is unbelievable and I would do anything to be in his shoes. To be honest, I can see him playing in another final but not winning the slam.

However, men's tennis is so competitive and anything can happen. Look at it this way. Roddick is in a list along with Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, Murray and Del Potro, and any of these can win a grand slam next year. Take your pick because it's gonna be one hell of a year.
