College Football Notebook For Games Of Nov. 14
Here are news and notes for this weekend’s football games, compiled from the standpoint of the sports investor by OffshoreInsiders.com.
Florida State vs. Wake Forest
The Demon Deacons are much better than their straight up record would indicate. They have five losses by a combined 13 points, twice losing in OT.
UAB vs. Memphis
Memphis fired head coach Tommy West, but he will coach the final three games. There are signs the team could rally around the coach as he was given a standing ovation when he addressed the players following his dismissal.
Western Kentucky vs. Louisiana Monroe
The winless Hilltoppers are another team that will have a chance to rally around a lame duck head coach. WKU fired David Elson, but he will finish out the season. The team has the nation’s longest losing streak at 17.
Georgia Tech vs. Duke
Neither team will lack motivation. Tech will clinch the ACC Coastal Division with a win, but Duke is two wins from becoming bowl eligible. They are in the midst of their best season since 1994.
Utah vs. TCU
The Utes will start true freshman Jordan Wynn at QB. He has five quarters of experience under his belt and just one FBS start.
Alabama vs. Mississippi State
Miss State is a dangerous game for the Crimson Tide. The Bulldogs have won 2-of-3 straight up in the series and all five of their losses have come to teams currently ranked. Four of the losses were to teams in the Top 13 and they are off a bye week.
Houston vs. Central Florida
UCF will likely get back two key offensive players who were out against Texas: starting QB Brett Hodges and RB Brynn Harvey. Harvey has 679 yards rushing and seven trips to the end zone.
Arizona vs. California
California RB Jahvid Best is out following his horrific injury last week to Oregon State. He is fourth in the conference in rushing with 867 yards. Shane Vereen, who has 386 yards rushing on 75 attempts, will take his place. Vereen has scored six TDs.
UNLV vs. Air Force
The Rebels are in a true must-win as they have to come out victorious in their remaining two games to be bowl eligible. Air Force employs the same 3-4 defense that gave UNLV fits against Wyoming on Sept. 26. Air Force ranks seventh in the nation in total defense.
Air Force also has the 4th ranked run offense going against a UNLV rush defense ranked 111th.
Western Michigan vs. Eastern Michigan
WMU must win to keep their bowl hopes alive. EMU is 0-9 straight up.
Iowa vs. Ohio State
Not only does Iowa face a letdown following their first loss of the year but they will be without starting QB Ricky Stanzi for the year, possibly their bowl game. Redshirt freshman James Vandenberg gets his first start. He’s completed 11-of-30 passes, a putrid completion percentage of 36.7 percent.
