Tough Questions: Has Spurrier Out Lived His Coaching Days

After losing 3 of the last 4 games its looking the "New Carolina" is falling back into old habbits.

The Gamecocks annual late season break down looks like its in full swing. After a disapointing loss to Arkansas and the power house that is Florida up next the Gamecocks are in trouble.

In a time like this i find myself asking two questions:

      1.  Why do the Gamecocks keep falling apart at the end of the season?

This year I believe it all goes back to the offense and its inablility to find a starting offensive line. Shuffleing between 7 or 8 guys week to week leads to guys being out of position or at an unfamilar position.

Its not just the offensive players though it is also the offensive play calling. The Gamecocks have a tendency to abondon the running game in the second half.The coaches don't seem to realize that running the ball is a comitment similar to chopping wood and stop hacking half way through.

Red zone offense is also a major problem. The Gamecocks fall into a predictable rhythm in the red zone. Like throwing 3 fades to the same guy on the same side or running the ball 3 times in a row to the same side.

This kind of questionable play calling leads me to the second question that plaugues me:

     2.   Is it time to get ride of Spurrier? 

 I say NO.

Spurrier just made several major coaching changes this year and has recruited very well in the past 3 off seasons. The offensive struggles mostly stem from the amount of under classmen starting.

As these player mature and become more comfortable with the system the play calling schould improve. Penalties should decrease as we find consistant starters.
