Forsett Should Be The Main Back In The Mid Field Area

lee springNov 10, 2009

Forsett should be put into the equation of the Seahawk's offense for the remainder of the season. There should be no question about it. Jones had his chance to do something and all I have seen is nothing but wasted plays when he gets the ball in the back field. Jones lost the job many games ago IMO, the guy expects holes to be there each time he gets the ball, and the fact of the matter is good backs do not always get the holes they expect and still make play's most of the time, Jones does not. Forsett however against Detroit, 1 carry for 14 YDS in the mid field area. Feed the man he is hungry in this section of the field!

Stats for both back's Jones Rushing stats 8 GMS ATT-105 YDS-382 AVG-3.6 TDS-2. Forsett ATT-20 YDS-123 AVG-6.1 TDS-0. 123 YDS for 20 carry's, mainly from what I have seen in the mid field area. Sounds like a good RB to me at least good stats for one games worth, not eight, why has he not been played more often, in the mid field area, where he has been an impact on this team, what on Earth is Knapp thinking?

How about Receiving? So far this season has been about the same for both back's so why have two of them next year? Jones 8 GMS REC-20 YDS-177 AVG-8.9 TDS-2. Forsett REC-16 YDS-140 AVG-8.8 TDS-0. There is two things too look at between back's first thing TDS are a given to Jones because he gets the ball way more often closer to the red zone area. You hardly see Forsett on the field in these type of situations even though it looks like he would be very successful.

Here is what I have seen from both backs at this point and time of the season both struggle before the forty yard line on their own side of the field. Forsett is more dangerous than Jones in the mid field area because the field is more spread out, and he has a faster first step which is what Seattle needs in order to get some yardage which Forsett proved last week against Detroit. Forsett is as good a receiver if not better because he has speed on his side, however Jones does beat him in power though, but I still would use Forsett in the mid field area. Because Jones has more power than Forsett I would use him to run more often in the red zone area.

Conclusion: Seattle needs to involve Forsett more in the running game to see if he is going to fit in their system for next year. IMO Jones has seen his last year in Seattle, unless he does something dramatically in the next eight games. Seattle needs to draft a big back that will punish defenders, then send in Forsett to knock them of balance, for next year. The power runner would do most of the work except the mid field area because this is where Forsett is most dangerous. The offense can get it in the red zone with Forsett's help, then use a power runner to get six points, Jones is done unless he can do this and I do not see that happening.

Strategy that may help Seattle win games is Hasselbecks arm first, especially deep in their own part of the field. Short throws to receivers, and a little bit of Jones until they get to the forty yard line area, then put Forsett in and mix it up with Hasselbeck until they get to the 30-20 yard area. Then put Jones back in and mix it up with Hasselbeck in the red zone area, should be a good formula to get 6 PTS instead of 3 PTS, and maybe win more games than expected.
