Predicting the WWE In-Ring Appearances for the Undertaker in 2020

The Doctor Chris MuellerFeb 6, 2020

The Undertaker is someone who comes and goes as he pleases because he has earned that right after working for WWE for the past couple of decades as one of its biggest attractions.

We never know when he is going to set his sights on another opponent. It makes his return a fun surprise, but it also means we never get to see him in extended storylines anymore.

He is used as a short-term rival these days. WWE only brings him back for its biggest pay-per-views and its twice-yearly shows in Saudi Arabia.

This makes his returns somewhat more predictable, but since he only works a few shows each year, he tends to miss at least one or two of the Big Four PPVs.

Let's look at the most likely events we could see The Undertaker appear at next.

Super ShowDown and Crown Jewel

1 of 4

WWE's next event in Saudi Arabia will be Super ShowDown on February 27, and it will likely be followed by a second event under the Crown Jewel name in the fall.

The Deadman has appeared at all but one of the Saudi Arabia shows since WWE started holding them in 2018 with The Greatest Royal Rumble.

This means the likelihood of him showing up at Super ShowDown is high. He is a major star who is known around the world, and WWE always makes sure to take full advantage of the prestige he adds to any event.

Goldberg is set to appear on Friday's SmackDown, and he might be looking to face Taker again since their last encounter at Super ShowDown 2019 did not go as planned.

WrestleMania 36

2 of 4

WrestleMania just wouldn't feel right without having The Undertaker involved in some capacity, even if he just showed up for a promo or quick attack.

His undefeated streak may no longer be intact, but his legacy at the annual PPV is unmatched. There is no greater icon in WrestleMania history than The Deadman.

Drew McIntyre and Brock Lesnar will be going to battle over the WWE Championship. Nobody else has been booked for the show, so Taker's options are wide open.

He could face an old rival like Triple H, or he could use this opportunity to give a young Superstar some exposure, like Aleister Black.

Seeing him face The Fiend would be incredible, and it would lead to some of the greatest buildup segments in WWE history.

The Undertaker and WWE can go in a number of different directions to produce an interesting story, especially if Taker is going to put someone else over.

SummerSlam

3 of 4

SummerSlam is the unofficial second-biggest event of the year. For some reason, recent SummerSlams have not felt like the major spectacle they are supposed to be.

This event was built around being a party. WWE used to air commercials with Superstars on the beach to advertise the show every year, and it helped set it apart from shows like The Royal Rumble and WrestleMania.

Now, it just feels like a longer version of every other PPV. If WWE wants this to feel like it deserves to be second only to 'Mania, it needs to bring in The Undertaker.

There are people who will pay just to see his entrance. That is how important he still is to WWE. As stated earlier, the company has a huge selection of potential opponents to choose from, many of which are people he has battled many times.

Seeing him face Randy Orton or Edge one more time would be the kind of thing lapsed fans might be willing to check out, which could turn them back into full-time viewers.

Survivor Series

The Undertaker is known for being a staple at WrestleMania, but he also has a lot of history at Survivor Series, especially since he made his debut at the event in 1990.

This year will be the 30th anniversary of his debut with WWE. If the company doesn't use this event to at least pay tribute to him, it would be a missed opportunity.

A lot of wrestlers have been around for 30 or more years, but there are few who can say they have had the lasting relevance Taker has been able to maintain over the decades.

If there is one thing WWE loves to do, it's celebrating milestones. We get special episodes of Raw and SmackDown every 500 shows and every five years, so there is little chance Taker's 30-year anniversary goes unmentioned.
