Nick Saban Brings Tide Team and Recruiting Crop Both Up To No. 2
Just when you thought Nick Saban had his hands full guiding this year's Crimson Tide team team to a second place ranking and coaching so hard to stop the silly miscues they've been making, he's also building yet another recruiting class that came in today at No. two as well.
Could this be the third year in a row that Nick Saban not only brings home the wins, but brings home the best recruiting class in America yet again?
With Saban, all things are possible. Some people refer to Saban as a recruiter who coaches during his off time.
Five-star athlete Keenan Allen's commitment this past week helped elevate the Tide to this high ranking.
However another No. one would be very long shot as Saban has commitments and has offered scholarships to two kickers that are only two stars at this point.
Saturday's game against LSU was certainly an exciting game. It was also a game that Saban had arranged to have a hefty number of top prospects attend.
That game helped cement some very positive feedback from every single one of them.
A typical reaction was like this one from a 2011 prospect, Javorius Allen.
"It was a different atmosphere than I've ever seen before. The crowd was out of control. It was also one of the best games I've ever seen in person before so that was great too," said Allen. "I talked to Coach Smart and Coach Willis after the game. They told me they like what they've seen of my play on the field and they told me to keep up the good work and keep working hard. They were very encouraging to me and said they really think I could be a special player."
So not only was Saban working on getting the 2010 class to No. one, but he was already laying the groundwork for the 2011 class as well.
Saban is a winner, and he takes that mentality to every phase of his job. He doesn't want to just win games, he wants to win every recruiting contest, every golf game and every argument with reporters.
So far I can attest to having witnesses three of those four myself. We have yet to play golf together.
