A Key To BYU's Success: Dennis Pitta Scouting Report

Dennis Pitta has been one of the best TEs in the nation the last two-three years and he always seems to get better.  After a year in 2008 in which he put up 83 receptions and 1083 yds with six TDs, this season he is continuing his success despite commanding consistent double teams.  

In his career he has had six games of over 100 yards receiving including the game that really put him on the map, a remarkable 213 yard effort vs. Northern Iowa in 2008. 

His seven receptions for 90 yards vs. Oklahoma this season proved to scouts he could be just as effective versus the big boys.  He easily reminds you of Owen Daniels, Dallas Clark, and Chris Cooley, and there is no reason to think that with his skill sets he won’t be just as effective in the NFL as any one of those players. 

He is a true leader on the field that makes the players around him better and on top of that he really makes his QB more comfortable than he otherwise would be. 

Scouts may question whether Pitta’s talent has peaked which might cause him to slip slightly, and his speed is a question mark in which his 40 time might determine a lot about whether he goes in the third round or slides up into the late first. 

He is at the very least a player that will be an effective starter in the NFL that could have an impact on the right team in his first year.  He has the size and all the skills to be a solid blocker and is when he takes good angles, but could use a bit of improvement in this area. 

I fully expect Pitta to make his impact felt in the NFL when defenses fail to realize they can't just cover him with the typical LB or safety.
