No One Can Beat Valentino, He's The Golden Boy Of Motorsport
Valentino Rossi won his ninth Moto GP title this month, meaning he is quite literally one of the most extraordinary motor racers that has ever blessed the sport.
Yes, Michael Schumacher was the man when it came to Formula 1 and Motorcycle racing has seen greats like Barry Sheene and Mick Doohan but no one races quite like Rossi.
His whole career has been successful and this year was even more special. The Italian retained the the title he won in 2008 after a two year losing run where Amercian, Nicky Hayden and Australian, Casey Stoner claimed the Moto GP crown but now Rossi is back and this year he was better than ever.
Valentino, dominated qualifying and then races. Even when he didnt win he would finish on the podium or just outside the top three. Luck though did play its part this year, especially on one specific occasion.
On a rainy sunday at Donnington Park, Rossi came off at the Foggy chicane, but lept back on his bike to claim a fifth place finish. Yes, he was incredibly lucky but even a champion needs the man upstairs on his side.
The last lap in Catalunya though was special and perhaps where Rossi won the title, mentally over his young Spanish teammate, Jorge Lorenzo. Rossi's last corner overtake on the Spanish rider was so special and for him to grab that last ditch win from the home favourite made it even more memorable.
Rossi's personality is also something to be admired. Yes, he is eccentric, wacky, and slightly mad, but he needs to be to ride a motorcycle the way he does.
Rossi is a special talent and has been an absolute blessing for motorcyle racing over the past ten years. All I can say is that thank god he never went to Formula 1, because this years Moto GP championship would not have been as exciting as it was.
