Fedor flattens Rogers: The End of the Fujita Defense

Jason EisenhornNov 7, 2009

Fedor's chin has been tested.

The Fujita Defense, or the idea that Fedor can't take a punch from a straight boxer and keep going, has been quietly laid to rest.  Fedor can indeed take a punch.  Big solid meaty ones.  And he gave it back in spades.

The fight began with a very quick straight jab that broke Fedors nose seconds into the bout and caused a spring of blood to run down the Russian's face.  Rogers looked great all through round one pushing Emelianenko to the cage for some dirty boxing. Emelianenko rocked him with a left, taking rogers to the ground.

Brett showed his composure under Fedor. A Kimura was attempted by Fedor and Rogers had his one chance with some quick ground and pound, but his arm was locked up by the Emperor seconds later.  Emelianenko showed his speed by completely sliding under Rogers, standing up and teeing off on "The Grims" head, and possibly landing more hits on the ground than Rogers himself.  Rogers already looks tired.

Rogers backs up on the ground, blocking Fedors wild right drop with his forearm.  And the first round is in the books.

The second round starts with Fedor and Rogers locking up on the cage.  Fedor flips around and unleashes a flurry on Rogers protected head.  They clinch and Rogers lands a knee. Back to the middle of the cage to set up some shots...

...And that's all.  At 3:17 Fedor unleashes a sambo cast from hell.

Bam.  Goodnight.

Rogers was a bit emotional in defeat, boarding on rude, and showing some poor sportsmanship after the fight.  Maybe Brett just isn't used to losing, or maybe he thought he had a decent chance, but his eyes were already in the back of his head when he went flying backwards, leaving Big John with nothing to do but end the match.

"The Crazy," or Fedor's full fury, came to Chicago tonight, and all critics are now silent.

Damn the UFC.

Fedor is the real deal, again and again.
