5 Feuds for Cain Velasquez After Brock Lesnar on WWE SmackDown

The Doctor Chris MuellerOct 28, 2019

Cain Velasquez is set to face Brock Lesnar on Thursday at Crown Jewel, but that won't be the last time we see the former UFC champion in a WWE ring.

Velasquez has signed a multi-year deal with WWE and that means we are going to see him step foot in the ring with pro wrestlers who do not have previous MMA experience.

While he is primarily known for his time in UFC, the heavyweight fighter has been training for a career in pro wrestling and plans on transitioning into the business on a permanent basis.

Lesnar was a natural choice for his first opponent due to their history. Once that feud is put on the backburner, though, WWE is going to pair him with some different Superstars.

Let's look at some possible feuds for Velasquez after he is done with The Beast Incarnate. Since most of his appearances have happened on SmackDown, we will stick to members of the blue brand's roster.

Big Show

1 of 5

Big Show has not been a regular fixture on WWE television for quite some time, but he is still in great shape and can appear if the right storyline comes along.

WWE has a lot of big Superstars but Big Show is one of the last true giants in the industry. His size alone makes him a worthy adversary for anyone and his experience makes him a living legend.

Velasquez is going to be an attraction, but WWE won't have him on tour every week like Ken Shamrock back in the day. He will likely work a similar schedule to Lesnar.

If WWE wants a marquee match for a future pay-per-view, Big Show vs. Velasquez would be a great pairing. The former UFC champion wants to prove he is the best fighter on the planet and putting down a giant is a great way to convince fans he is the real deal.

Braun Strowman

2 of 5

Braun Strowman can't be kept out of the world title scene forever. If Velasquez is able to defeat Lesnar for the WWE Championship at Crown Jewel, The Monster Among Men would be a great first challenger.

If The Beast does lose the title to his longtime rival, it won't be a lengthy title reign. If Velasquez doesn't win the belt, Strowman would still be a good choice as his next opponent.

Strowman's size and power make him a formidable opponent against anyone regardless of their skill. Size might not be everything but when you are big as The Monster, it means a lot.

These two could take each other to their limits and give the WWE Universe a fun contest. This could even be one of WWE's major attractions for WrestleMania 36.

Cesaro

3 of 5

Technical ability can get a wrestler far in this business, but it can also lead to someone being used to make other people look good for the majority of their career.

Cesaro is one of the most talented grapplers in the world. WWE can put him in the ring with anyone and the match will be good, so more often than not, he ends up putting other people over.

If management wants Velasquez to impress people, putting him in the ring with someone like The Swiss Cyborg is the best thing it can do.

Cesaro can match the MMA fighter as both a striker and a powerhouse. Despite a lack of recent success, the crowd still gets behind him during his matches because he is so talented. He will take care of Velasquez and make him look like the star WWE needs him to be.

Roman Reigns

4 of 5

He might not have the WWE Championship but Roman Reigns will always be one of the biggest stars on whatever brand he belongs to, and right now, that is SmackDown.

The Big Dog has a lot of history with Lesnar. He knows how to work with people who use an unconventional wrestling style and that makes him valuable.

Certain fans will never like Reigns but he can get a crowd into a match like nobody else. When he gets fired up, so do the fans.

Velasquez is going to end up in the ring with Reigns eventually, especially if he comes away from Crown Jewel with the WWE title. It's The Big Dog's yard, and he is going to make sure Velasquez knows it.

Dolph Ziggler

5 of 5

Like Cesaro, Dolph Ziggler has made a good living making other people look like stars. He can sell any finisher like he was hit by a truck and adapt to any style.

As a professional fighter, Velasquez is going to need help transitioning from trying to hurt people to trying to take care of them while making it look like he wants to hurt them.

He has been training in the lucha libre style of wrestling so he has a base to work from. Ziggler can help him adjust while making his matches fun and exciting.

The Showoff deserves to be a top star, but if he is destined to be the guy who puts everyone else over, he may as well put over the guys WWE is banking on to pull in new viewers.
