Fantasy Baseball Weekly Wonders Vol. 10

Ryan LesterJun 9, 2008
A look back at the past week in baseball to bring you the surprising stars.

Pitcher

Jonathan Sánchez
- Jonathan Sánchez has been the latest San Francisco Treat.  In two starts last week (both Wins) Sánchez went 14 Innings with a 1.29 ERA and a 1.07 WHIP while racking up 12 Ks.  For the year he’s 5-3 with a 3.70 ERA.

Catcher
Jarrod Saltalamacchia
  - Now that’s a mouthful.  Salty has been on fire for Texas going 5 for 14 (.357) this past week with 2 Runs, a HR, 3 RBI, and 3 Walks.  Over the past month he’s hitting .298 with 13 RBI.

Corner Infielder
Joe Crede
- Chicago’s Crede isn’t a complete surprise, but after his dismal 2007 season, and the threat of Josh Fields, one probably didn’t expect the success Crede’s had.  He’s been especially successful against the Twins racking up 16 of his 41 RBI against them.  This past week he went 11 for 18 (.611) with 9 Runs, 2 Doubles, 5 HRs, 12 RBI, and 3 Walks.  What I can’t figure is why a player who went 9 for 12 (.666) with 7 Runs, 5 extra-base Hits (4 HRs), and 10 RBI against the Twins isn’t issued a single Walk.

Middle Infielder
Maicer Izturis
  - With the injuries Anaheim has been dealing with (Chone Figgins, Erick Abyar, Howie Kendrick) Maicer has been a prett valuable guy for the Angles lately.  Last week he went 10 for 27 (.370) with 5 Runs, a Double, 2 HRs, 7 RBI, 2 Walks, and 2 SBs.

Outfielder
David DeJesús - Kansas City’s OF went 10 for 24 (.417) last week with 4 Runs, 3 Doubles, a Triple, a HR, 5 RBI, 3 Walks, and 2 SBs.  He’s hitting .305 on the year.
