Oregon Ducks Football Campus Voice: A Rosy Atmosphere
In the aftermath of the destruction of the USC Trojans, there has only been one thing on the mind of the University of Oregon student body: The ever-elusive Rose Bowl.
As proof of the Rose Bowl madness setting in, immediately following the USC game, parties began to spring up everywhere around campus and all of Eugene was out and about dressed in the most ridiculous costumes imaginable.
Entrance to house parties around campus would usually require that you or one of your friends, knew the person throwing the party, but on this night things were much different.
With all of Eugene in jubilation, every partier on the street was either invited into a house with a “Go Ducks!!!” cheer or a shout of “ROSE BOWL!!!” or invited themselves in with the same calls and were gladly accepted by those inside.
This was an incredibly odd and rare phenomenon that only develops after football victories of gigantic proportions.
That Saturday evening and early Sunday morning, was a whirlwind of craziness in which Oregon students and fans let everything hang out and didn’t have a care in the world, except for obtaining their next alcoholic beverage.
Besides the alcoholic drinks, the campus has had much the same tone for this entire week leading up to Saturday’s game against Stanford.
Students clamoring over our prospects in the upcoming weeks, what to expect from Stanford, and how they are already booking their travel plans to Pasadena come New Year's. All these hot topics that can be heard or discussed, as one makes their way down 13th on their way to class.
However, in the back of everybody’s mind is the 2007 season. The disappointment and disbelief that dazed the UO two seasons ago has played an important role.
Duck fans are enjoying this season even more because we all know how easily and quickly a season can be cut short of a BCS bowl game and a championship run. Of course, if Oregon has a repeat of 2007, the heartbreak is going to hit us all twice as hard, but none of us see that happening, right?
Although the overwhelming majority of the students have already penciled the Ducks into at least the Rose Bowl, there is still work to be done and that includes this weekend’s match-up against Stanford.
Stanford always plays tough and has made Oregon work for every victory against them in the past few years. This year is going to be no different due to their increased talent and coaching prowess.
It seems to me that many students and fans of UO are overlooking this Stanford team somewhat and think they are still the same old bottom-feeders, but come Saturday they are going to show us that they are a team to be reckoned with.
On the other hand, there’s no way Oregon loses this football game. After all, hasn’t this team already pounded Cal, USC and given Utah its only loss for the past two seasons??
Confidence is high and so are expectations.
Lets keep it that way by cheering on the Ducks from wherever you may be.
GO DUCKS!!!!
