Street Profits, Drew McIntyre Prove Valuable to New Roster, More WWE Raw Fallout

Kevin BergeOct 22, 2019

The new WWE Raw roster was on full display this week from the start. With some of the biggest names in wrestling including Roman Reigns, Brock Lesnar, Randy Orton and Daniel Bryan on the blue brand, its counterpart had new stars to build.

From video packages highlighting some of the best in the business to big matches that rewrote the path of certain acts, Raw did not want anyone to get the idea any wrestler was defined by how they were perceived one month ago.

Perhaps no one was given a bigger spotlight than The Street Profits, who won in a big way in the main event over The O.C. The charismatic duo of Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins showed they are stars in their own right.

Drew McIntyre made his own statement by putting on a show once again with Ricochet but this time taking the win. After time off, The Scottish Psychopath looked focused and determined to hurt everyone on his way to the top.

Lucha libre has also begun the process of taking over Raw and not just because Rey Mysterio is around. Sin Cara took Andrade to the limit, while Humberto Carrillo debuted by challenging Seth Rollins in a match that proved his worth even if it didn't guarantee he is ready.

These moments defined a night of rebuilding that gave everyone hope for a future when WWE is not entirely reliant on the same group of stars every week.

The Street Profits Feel Bigger on Raw Than They Ever Did in NXT

The Street Profits did not find a third man for their fight with The O.C., so it was changed to a tag team match with Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins vs. Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson.

AJ Styles got involved at a few key times until Kevin Owens came out and caught him with a stunner, allowing the Profits to win.

Ford and Dawkins have always been better suited for the main roster than NXT. The former, especially, is a larger-than-life personality and performer. The two are good enough to always put on a solid match, but they need a crowd that will elevate them.

Their entrance alone felt special in the main event. Some guys were made for this kind of spotlight. Their personalities just shine through with a bigger and brighter crowd.

While The Viking Raiders are holding down the Raw Tag Team Championships, The Street Profits may quietly take over Raw as a whole. The two have the ability to get people talking about tag team wrestling again and in a different way to The Revival's simple throwback style.

If this push continues, you can bet this will not be the last time The Street Profits get the better of some of the best in the business.

This Time Has to Be Drew McIntyre's Moment

Drew McIntyre made his return to WWE when he was introduced by Ric Flair as the final member of Team Flair for Crown Jewel on October 31.

In a physical grudge match, The Scottish Psychopath battered Ricochet, stopping his momentum again and again before winning with an emphatic Claymore.

It is not the first time WWE has teased a big push for McIntyre. Every time he is on TV, it feels like he is on the verge of a major push. It just never materializes, though.

This has to be the time. Raw drafted him in the first round of the first night of the WWE draft, and he came back after being hyped up by The Nature Boy. The red brand needs him to be the top heel on the roster, and he is more than ready for it.

His match with The One and Only was perhaps even better than their showstopper in the King of the Ring tournament and started the show off right. He can do that every week with the right spotlight.

Once Seth Rollins is done with The Fiend, you would have to assume The Scottish Psychopath will be in the front of the line waiting for a Universal Championship tilt.

If this push does not work out, it's hard to say when McIntyre will reach his potential.

Sin Cara Could Finally Be Back to a Relevant Role in WWE

Andrade and Zelina Vega made fun of Sin Cara on their way to the ring. The luchador made them pay by pushing El Idolo to his limit.

At multiple points in this match, he had Andrade on the edge, but Vega attacked Cara out of the ring to set up a hammerlock DDT for the win.

With the roster separated once again, certain stars will benefit from more spotlight. One man who got a bigger opportunity off the bat than expected was Cara. He has always been a reliable hand, but a few issues have held him back along the way.

That said, at 42 years old, he can still go against some of the best. He was not in a position where he should be defeating Andrade, but he might be able to work his way into the midcard title scene in due time.

With The Lucha House Party on SmackDown, he's in a decent position to be the resident masked luchador since Rey Mysterio will look to play a more limited role in the coming months.

It's ridiculous to think about how long he has not been a factor in WWE. Even getting a chance every few weeks to have a competitive match would be better than what he has done.

Humberto Carrillo May Not Be Ready for the Push He Is Getting

4 of 4

Humberto Carrillo watched Andrade's match backstage and talked up El Idolo after the match. He also had a few choice words for Seth Rollins and becoming WWE universal champion. The Beastslayer challenged him to a match, and Carrillo gave him a good fight before falling to the Stomp.

Much like Ali upon his move from 205 Live to the main roster, this upstart cruiserweight got a big challenge right off the bat. He did not have quite the same level of match, but he did show he could hang with Rollins, arguably the top champion in WWE right now.

However, it will take more than a good match to be worthy of a major opportunity in WWE. Especially as WWE continues to bring in and promote a host of fantastic luchadors, Carrillo needs to find a way to stand out.

In 205 Live, he was pushed as if he was unstoppable, but he never quite managed to outshine his competition. The title was never going to him if 205 Live was going to stay relevant.

Now he has an opportunity to be the most pushed cruiserweight on the red brand, but he must prove he's more than an athlete. He has to show he can be a star. He hasn't gotten there yet.
