Report: Antonio Brown to File Record Grievances vs. Raiders, Patriots over $61M+

Timothy RappSep 29, 2019

Former Pittsburgh Steelers, Oakland Raiders and New England Patriots wideout Antonio Brown reportedly is set to make NFL history by becoming the first player "poised to file nine grievances and appeals during the same time period," as league sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter

Per that report, Brown is attempting to win back: $215,000 of fines levied by the Oakland Raiders, $29 million in voided salary guarantees from Oakland, a $1 million signing bonus Oakland voided, his $860,000 Week 1 salary, a $1 million salary guaranteed voided by the New England Patriots, a $9 million signing bonus the Patriots didn't pay out, $64,000 in unpaid Week 3 salary and the $20 million option the Patriots had for the 2020 season.

And as Schefter noted, the grievances might not end there if the NFL ultimately decides to suspend Brown in the wake of his former trainer, Britney Taylor, accusing him of sexual assault in three separate incidents and another woman accusing him of sexual misconduct and of later sending her intimidating text messages after the story broke.

It's likely that Brown would appeal any potential suspension.

There's also the two grievances he filed against the NFL while he was disputing the ban on his preferred helmet, losing both. Suffice to say, Brown has had his fair share of dealings with the league office in just a few months.

His future in the NFL is also murky. The league is currently investigating the accusations made against him and could place him on the commissioner's exempt list if he's signed by another team. That, along with his Twitter tirade last Sunday aimed at several people—including Patriots owner Robert Kraft—may keep teams from signing him for now.

Add in the fact that Brown has been three different teams in less than a calendar year, requesting a trade from two of them, and it's clear teams are justified in being very cautious.
