Longtime football coach John Ralston, who was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1992, died Saturday.

He was 92.

San Jose State University announced Ralston died in Sunnyvale, California. The coach concluded his career at the university from 1992-1996, coming back to the college game after an absence of more than 20 years.

Ralston coached at Utah State and Stanford before San Jose State, leading the Cardinal to back-to-back Rose Bowl wins in 1970-71. He also spent five seasons coaching the Denver Broncos, leading them to a 34-33-2 record.

During his time with the Broncos, Ralston also served as the team's general manager and is credited with injecting life into the then-moribund franchise. Sixteen of the Broncos' starters from their Super Bowl XII team were drafted or signed by Ralston.

After leaving the Broncos, Ralston served as the offensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles and worked in the San Francisco 49ers' front office before journeying around the globe coaching football. His stops included the USFL and the Netherlands' national team. His short stint at San Jose State ended with his resignation following the 1996 season, after which he served as an administrator in the team's athletic department.
